They most likely rotoscoped that (traced over an actual video). But I think for playing instruments, that's probably the best way to go if you want it to be realistic.

@@Zengkoy Yeah I mean animating it normally would require one to have a strong grasp on the instrument, and since a team of people work on the animations, every one of them would need to be good at playing the instrument too, it's way way too much effort for a simple music scene even if your anime is about music.

Every time I think about the final performance in Your Lie in April, I get that tight feeling in the back of my throat (the one that usually happens just before you cry). Something about the fact that Kaori wasn’t actually there but we could still see her playing alongside Kousei and giving it her all really gets to me. And actually, thinking about her letter in the end gets me emotional too. The whole thing is a masterpiece tbh

Also in the live action the actress learned to play piano for it. I'm not a musician but pretty much all I know and love about classical music came from reading and watching every version of Nodame many years ago when I was younger.. Even made me want to play piano very much (which didn't really work out because of life circumstances, but I tried for a few months..). I really fell in love with so many pieces and with the genre in general because of it.

True. But then again, they were aiming to make it realistic, more like Your lie in April. However, the budget wasn't enough to get animators that good. Hence why it's so spastic and wrong. But know that Conan was supposed to be like Your lie in April in terms of accuracy.💕 Also, the playing in the Detective Conan film Full score of fear; that is better violin playing and they play other instruments in that film as well.

@@kaitou_e2126 That was from one of the movies. And one that pissed me off, to be honest! In the series, it's a well established fact that Conan is *tone deaf*. They play this straight at the beginning, but halfway through Conan develops a pitch perfect hearing, which is incredibly plot relevant, and everybody just acts like he had always had that skill.

You know for how Princess Precure is animated towards children, it’s really refreshing to see they gave more attention to the violin playing than necessary. Props to them for good animation.

More attention than necessary? This may be coming from the mindset of someone who has been playing violin for nearly 20 years, but I think, that if you are going to have any character play violin (whether your medium is animated or live-action), there needs to be extreme attention to detail in making sure that it's believable, because if actual musicians (particularly violinists) watch those films or shows, the obviously false violin playing will completely turn them away. There's a reason why Eddy and Brett have multiple videos about horrible violin acting.

What got me into classical music appreciation was Nodame Cantabile. Especially the episode they perform Sergei Vasilyevich Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 2. The entire series was littered with proper classical music appreciation.

I'm not sure if the term applies to all bands of the same category -- bands which consists of brasswind (mouth piece made of brass metals) and woodwind (mouth piece made of wood) instruments. Brass band consists of only brasswind instruments, while orchestra consists of brasswind, woodwinds, and string instruments (violins, violas, cellos...).

Nodame Cantabile got me into classical music. That, and La Corda D'oro. But we don't talk about that.

I've fallen in love with Nodame Cantabile many years ago. Made me discover so many things i didn't know (i'm not a musician). But it allowed me to start and maintain (casual) conversations with musicians. Like "oh, you play the oboe? Do you know this *proceed to hum Mozart's oboe concerto*" (this really happened. He knew the piece).

La corda d'orooooooooooooooo!!! Such a good manga and the anime did it justice! It really inspired me to go into classical music when I was younger too!

I was so afraid when "Your Lie In April" came up because that's what got me into classical music I felt so relieved when you said it was your favorite.

He never said it was his favorite...although he did note that it was popular. Still, manga/anime are pretty amazing at getting people into activities that aren't necessarily "hip," per se. It seems like people nowadays get into rock, pop, or hip hop music, but far less people get into classical music. Hopefully classical music manga/anime like Piano no Mori, Nodame Cantabile, and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso can get more people into not just listening to classical music but also playing it like how Hikaru no Go got more people into playing Go.

The first one to actually do it decently is Precure and I'm dying laughing right now, I grew up watching Precure so I'm glad the animators for the continued show care about smaller details.

I love how in the first Conan one, she puts the bow down and the music keeps going for a few seconds. Very impressive, much like the quality of sound when she looks like she’s in a wind tunnel

It takes an insane amount of effort to actually replicate accurate musical playing in animation because of the amount of drawing precision you need to pull it off Take Kiminouso, a long shot of Kaori and Kousei playing, Kaori is playing the violin and you have to animate to the music by referencing the live action footage you have been given beforehand, 2 pixels off and it’s a completely different note
