They are impressively 'tight' on "Helplessly Hoping" Everything starts and ends together and the unison in the beginning makes you listen to hear two distinct voices.

This is why people told you not to watch Mayday until you sort of understood their vocals! Now you need to watch "Mayday Live", "9-5 beatboxing breakdown" and "Joy to the World Hosannah" for more surprises. One of the things I love about Home Free is that you're never sure what they'll do next. Love your channel & analyses!

I agree “helplessly hoping” harmonies are excellent! You cannot go wrong with any “Home Free” song whether it be cover or original! I can’t wait for you to listen to them all! Also Tim, Austin and Chance all have solo careers outside of Home Free. And Tim and Austin also have another group they are in together called “sweet and low” along with a few others. Tim has released an album called “Pieces of Me” where he harmonizes with himself as he does all the parts to the songs on the album which are all songs from 50-60’s doo whoop songs. Austin has several new song releases just in the past few months. And Chance sings with the “hound and the fox” and a member of the “street Corner Syphony”

Tim mentioned that his voice "dropped" rather late and he actually trained long as a tenor and he kept his upper range resulting in a stunning 5 octave range. Chance was actually singing bass with his previous band, now he takes it over whenever Tim takes lead.

Always enjoy your reviews. If you want to review one of their originals, they put one out last year, written by Austin (their high tenor) called "Playing with Fire," that is paired with some stunning videography. Also think you would deeply enjoy the harmonic talents in "Helplessly Hoping" (a Crosby Stills & Nash cover) and just revel in the wonderful harmonies and bass of "Brothers In Arms" (a Dire Straits cover). Also, as a classical musician, you might enjoy Rob and Austin teaming up to sing "Nessun Dorma" (I think that one is titled "Two Country Singers Try Opera").

This song is one of my favorites. So glad you waited to react to it. Your surprise at hearing the switch ups in the voices was great. Tim can sing in a beautiful higher tenor voice along with Austin & Rob. And Chance can hit the lower bass notes when needed. And Adam did a fabulous job as always with his vocal percussion. This song is sung by a woman Cam, so they sung it in a higher key to match the original.

Home Free is a great example of that change . I like many more contemporary country songs. Keith Urban not only can sing but is an amazing guitarist. Once more your analysis was awesome. Before joining Home Free Adam Chance was the bass singer in the a cappella group Street Corner Symphony. Then he joined a group that already had a bass singer, so he was officially the baritone/bass, and already had a singer named Adam, so he goes by Chance when singing with Home Free. He still goes by Adam Chance when singing solo or with The Hound + The Fox and he still blesses us with that wonder bass voice.

Nice LOW notes Sir! LOL. This song is a real bop for me. This is not the acapella we grew up with, it's so fresh and new! Pentatonix, Home Free and VoicePlay are giants in the acapella world! I love your reaction to Tim's very high range and then your physical gut reaction to Chance's low low. Sweet! I also love how you described music as not always having to be seen as black and white dots but colorful and fluid. It's an excellent analogy. Music is infinitely more than black and white. There are innumerable twists and turns it can take, and you point out every one on every song you react to. Thank you for your playfulness and immense knowledge. I really like Homefree, but PTX is my fave a capella. However, I love love LOVE Tim Foust!!! I didn't know he had that range either. Amazing. Matt Sallee also has a higher range as well, and I first heard it in PTX Hallelujah live. I'm an Avi Kaplan fan, but as far as a bass singer Tim is my favorite. Another bass singer that can sing incredibly low is Geoff Castelucci, VoicePlay. I dont think youve reacted to that a capella group yet. They fall in 3rd place, for me, my taste, however they have a huge fan base. First time I've heard this song. Loved it, and your insight, as usual.

I think that was great, to include a brief clip of the original. I already knew Home Free had amazingly performed their version in the same key as that of a female singer. But hearing the quick sample made that part of it fully clear. And don’t worry, basically everyone is caught flat-footed when Tim comes in, singing in tenor. I think it was after this rendition was released that word got out about how broad his range is. The cat was out of the bag. And for me, I especially like Rob’s counter-melody lines that kind of create the outro.

Great reaction, which, as usual, left me surprised and much better informed. I look forward to you covering "Colder Weather"(my favourite harmony-wise), and "Helplessly Hoping", one of their most pared-back and yet haunting performances. "In The Blood" also makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Thanks.

I’m so glad you knew Tim’s range before listening to this song. Many reactors listen to this song too early and say ok, Tim’s the tenor…and we have to say no, Tim’s the bass! It’s the old switcheroo! We don’t usually see Chance doing a bass solo. We know he can sing bass but this was a fun switch. A lot of fun to hear/see the stomping too. Home Free is so creative and those harmonies are exquisite. Helplessly Hoping, In the Blood, What We Ain’t Got, I Can’t Outrun You (lots of bass - Chance lead), Yours, Winter Song. Originals would be Give Me a Sign, Snow Globe, Playing with Fire. So many good songs. Good reaction SH!

So now you should check out some of the videos they put out during quarantine. They were all locked down in their own homes, hundreds of miles apart. From Texas, to Tennessee, to Minnesota. They each recorded their own parts and then it was edited together. Some pretty amazing stuff. Their song title "Quarantine" was particularly amusing.

I was surprised after scrolling through your videos, that you have not yet reacted to the Nightwish performance of Ghost Love Score, at Wacken 2013. I think you will fall in love with the voice of Floor Jansen. Nightwish is a deep and wonderful rabbit hole to go into.
