Well. It'd have to be Brahms' 3rd Movement of his Piano Quartet (3 C minor, Op. 60 - Andante), which I am recalling that he wrote in dedication to Clara Schumann, to whom he had declared his love, all knowing that she was also dedicated to her Robert, who at this time could have been descending into dementia. And now that this is playing as I write, another POIGNANT bit of musical history is that of Mahler's love for his wife Alma, and the music (sheet music) MS of his Symphony 10, where he declared his undying love for her, knowing that she was not necessarily all in love with him: "Mahler was at the height of his compositional powers, but his personal life was in complete disarray, most recently compounded by the revelation that his young wife, Alma, had had an affair with the architect Walter Gropius. Mahler sought counseling from Sigmund Freud, and dedicated the Eighth Symphony to Alma on the verge of its successful première in Munich in a desperate attempt to repair the breach. The unsettled frame of Mahler's mind found expression in the despairing comments (many addressed to Alma) on the manuscript of the Tenth, and must have influenced its composition: on the final page of the final movement, Mahler wrote, "für dich leben! für dich sterben!" (To live for you! To die for you!) and the exclamation "Almschi!" (his pet name for Alma) underneath the last soaring phrase." -- Wiki bio of Mahler's 10th (EN) Both of these smite me sometimes to tears, especially the Mahler.

Oh, and BTW, there is that moment after 17mins in Mahler's 10th, the Adagio (1st movement), where the trumpet sounds in the same way as that horrid drum and trumpet throughout the first movement of his 5th (fireman's funeral in NYC where Mahler must be contemplating his own eventual demise).... It tears me into pieces, both moments. Wow.

Note, both Brahms and Mahler (and other composers) are used extensively in the wonderful, yet tragic, film "Parting Glances" (1986), where Bill Sherwood actually choreographs the action and the scenic progression to themes in Piano Quartet Op. 25 by Brahms and Symphony #7 by Mahler, movement 4, Nachtmusik, bits of Symphony #5 2nd Movement, Stürmisch bewegt, mit größter Vehemenz... wow. Talk about music written for love. That film was certainly written for love. :

What's this man talking about, the Tchaikovsky Romeo and Juliet is not a ballet, its a Fantasy-Overture for the concert hall! He must be confusing it with Prokofiev's ballet of the same name!

My mistake. When I was a kid, I saw a performance of the Tchaikovsky accompanied by dancing and assumed it was a ballet. I grew up and never bothered to double check lol

According to Wikipedia it has been used recently in a ballet, so I guess that may have led to some confusion... 'Excerpts from the score were used in the 2005 ballet Anna Karenina, choreographed by Boris Eifman.'

@@lauriethompson740 Yes, it may have been adapted for dance, but it was intended as an Overture, I've seen both the 3rd & 5th Symphonies by Tchaikovsky danced too, but that doesn't make them ballets!!!
