Classical Guitar Construction Part 3B: Sides

Музыка

In this segment, I use a heated press to bend the Brazilian rosewood sides. I also install the tail block, top side linings and the mahogany block that will support the arm bevel on the bass side of the lower bout.

Great video. I noticed that you glued the kerfing slotted side toward the side of the guitar. Do you always go that way? One can never have too many kerfing clamps. Also, your side bender worked great.

Thanks, Mike. That lining is known as "reverse kerfing. " It's stiffer than conventional kerfing,so the sides don't distort as much if I remove them from the mold before gluing on the top. I almost always use reverse kerfing on the soundboard side, but generally regular kerfing on the back side. Thank you for watching.
