I remember thinking Shawn Cassidy was so ridiculous. I could never figure out why he was on Tiger Beat. I think they let him sing on this show which was always cringe but I loved watching this series despite his foolishness.

I always loved the intro music and tiles of video from different episodes that flipped over. I think this was on Sunday.

And this, kids, is how Supernatural and Tomb Raider were born 😆☝️

I only remember watching The Hardy Boys & Nancy Drew Mysteries was because we were eagerly waiting for The Six Million Dollar Man, which came on right after. My cousins watched it for a different reason, they were teeny-boppers with the hots for Sean Cassidy. Thanx for the trip down 70's lane.

My older sisters inherited a ton of the Nancy Drew books from our cousins. The lurid artwork on the covers fascinated me and encouraged me to read the books, though they were a little above my then reading level. I guess they propelled me to become a "good reader" even today. I was in junior high school when the TV series came out. Jameson Parker was one of my first crushes. He was what we called a "fox." Sean Cassidy was for children. Good times.

I still have my old Hardy Boys TV series lunch box from the 70s. I use it, or my Superman movie one, when I sometimes volunteer and my son's school and have lunch with him. And I have all the blue hard cover books, and then some of the soft cover only ones that started at #59, iirc.

Thanks for the great video! This show was a Sunday night favorite growing up, it was fun reliving some of those memories. Pamela Sue Martin will always be the definitive Nancy Drew for me! The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew meet Dracula was definitely the high point of the series!

I had heaps of the old Nancy drew and hardy boys books as a kid. Read them all and loved them. Wish I hadn’t gotten rid of them.

I read almost all of the Hardy Boys books and many of the Nancy Drew ones too. I even gave the CW Nancy Drew a chance too. I had no Idea that they had Ghost writers

Memories!! LOL. TYVM. As an adult, I love the 30-50's B&W movies. After watching Bonita Grandville in the original, Nancy Drew " movies. That image was in their minds. Much needed shows as these are SOOOO needed these days.

Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew meet Dracula is probably my favorite episode, or at least the one I remember the clearest. I do remember enjoying that in the early episodes they made a point of showing the Hardys actually doing detective things - dusting for prints, and so forth. They dropped that fairly early on in favor of car chases and Joe singing whenever possible, but still, it was a nice touch while it lasted.

All I remember of this TV show is watching a promo for it when I was around five. I might have seen an episode, or two, but don't remember.

O remember that show fondly. I was a Hardy Boy fan,had a few of the books but seeing it when I got older more interested in Nancy.

I grew in the late 70s in San Francisco watching this tv version on ABC (American Broadcast Company). Interesting stories. Great music theme. Ah! The nostalgia of days past!

Grew up in SF in the sixties and seventies also First in the sunset then moved over to the Richmond district Wonderful childhood and loved my Nancy Drew’s along with my skateboard 🛹

The show was fun, light escapism for kids on a weekend evening. You couldn't take it seriously, just sit back and enjoy an adventure. Kids of a certain age in the mid 70s, like yours truly, would tune in and then sometimes fantasize about being a sleuth and exploring a spooky old mansion to rescue someone, or sneaking into an office at night to find crucial evidence. This video brought back nice memories. I still dig that original theme tune melody to this day; very effective composition. 😊

I loved these shows! What a great way to wind down the weekend watching these Sunday nights!

Why is it that the 70's featured so many rock band themed cartoons? Josie and the Pussycats, Scooby-Doo, Archie, and the Hardy Boys. Those are the ones I can name off the top of my head but I know that there were more.

I remember the girls in school buying Shaun Cassidy binders, records, issues of Tiger Beat with him. They didn’t care about the tv show except for the singing part so I guess that’s a reason 😊

I can't believe that you failed to mention that Pamela Sue posed for Playboy (and was even on the Cover) in 1978. She was the only reason I watched the show--I used to read all the Nancy Drew books, and loved the mystery. Sadly, while I was a fan of Shaun's music (I still own all 3 of his .45 rpm releases (Doo Run Run, That's Rock and Roll and Hey Deanie), I just could not hang with the show after Nancy switched over to that blonde girl. For me Pamela Sue will always be Nancy, just as Lynda Carter will always be Wonder Woman, Lyndsay Wagoner will always be the Bionic Woman, and Johanna Cameron will always be Isis.

That always confused me when I was a really small kid and the reruns would be played not in order. Me and my sister did like pams portrayal over the blonde girl who I don’t think I ever knew her name, I don’t know if anyone posted her episodes anywhere yet. Was the girl brought in because of Pam being in playboy or her contract was just up?

Got into the books (and The Three Investigators) in the early '80s when a relative thought they'd be a good fit for my reading. Boy, were they right. I read as many as I could find, borrow, beg or steal. One day at the local newsagent I saw a slipcase/boxed set of three Hardy Boys hardcovers (! well, to me that was a thing) and the red slipcase had the photos of actual people (Cassidy and Stephenson) on it. There was a Hardy Boys tv show? Why didn't my local network in rural Australia show it? Oh, the innocence.

The most I ever learned about this series. I read and enjoyed many of the books in 5th and 6th grade. Really helped me become a reader. Loved the series but realize that I never saw much of it after the first season. This is a show I need to revisit!

I very vaguely remember watching this series as a very young boy. It was on terrestrial TV in the UK. Unsure if it was shown in the late 70's or early 80's, so I was younger than ten years old at the time. I can still remember snippets of the episode with Dracula, and I still remember after all this time the final scene, so it did have an impact on my young mind! Looking on IMdB, I notice that Kim Cattrall was on it! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and comments on this series, watching your post was a real 'blast from the past' and I appreciate your work. 👏

I grew up on this show on DVD! Still love to revisit it. Come to think of it we watched a lot of old TV on DVD. Hardy Boys Nany Drew Mysteries, The A-Team, MacGyver, Hogan's Heroes, something very special about those mid-century shows. Still quote em to this day!

I was reading one of the origihal Hardy Boys books as a child, I was shocked to read about them using a revolver. I got the reprint (edited) story much later and that part was removed. I spend many months looking for older editions of the modern edited versions.

My sister had the Nancy Drew paperbacks in the early 70's which I enjoyed. Never got into the TV series.

Very good television for children. Loved the show as a kid.

That was Pretty Cool to watch to go back at a time when TV shows were Home some and you can just sit back to watch again and again I never forget the time I watched that series on ABC I was glued to it because the shows were worth the watch

Edward Stratemeyer wrote the basic concept outline. Leslie McFarlane was the creator and original ghostwriter of The Hardy Boys. Mildred Benson did the same for Nancy Drew. Harriet Stratemeyer was in charge of the revisions and rewriting of all the stories up to that point which began in the 1950’s. These revised texts dramatically changed the books in tone and length. The pseudonyms used by all the ghostwriters were Franklin W. Dixon and Carolyn Keene.

Great overview. I remember watching Hardy boys. Didn't remember Nancy Drew as being part of the first two seasons, but I definitely remembered the actress as playing Nancy Drew.

I was 9 when it started and 11 when it ended. One of my favorite shows. So disappointed when it ended.

I was ten when this show premiered and the first episode hooked me with its spooky situations. I watched all the episodes, but to be honest, I preferred the Nancy Drew episodes more as I had a huge crush on Pamela Sue Martin. I was really disappointed when she left the show. Her replacement was OK, but I liked Pamela better.

Same! My cousin and I were dismayed by the exit of Pamela Sue Martin, and the "new" Nancy Drew!! We stopped watching after that!

Yeah this was on ABC on Sunday nights just before ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’. I miss those times…

I was surprised to learn that this show was produced so late in the 70s..I had always my thought my memories of watching it dated from at least a couple of years earlier.

At school we use to call it, "Hardy Dew, and The Nancy Boys"

It was one of those TV shows shown on early evening Saturdays during the 70s, just after Grandstand. I'd catch it occasionally for Pamela Sue Martin, who I thought was gorgeous. When she wasn't on, I'd skip it.

I loved the crossover episodes.

Nice video! Was unaware of the Disney series and cartoon, but I remember seeing re-runs of the 70s series as a kid. Another musical guest I remember was Bread/David Gates. Also enjoyed reading the books, but dropped the Hardy Boys in favor of "The Three Investigators" series which were more fun to read in my opinion.

My sister and I were kids in the 70’s and this show was popular going up against the wonderful world of Disney. Each week it was one or the other and We always preferred the hardy boys over Nancy drew and that was common in our area if the USA. I guess the hardy boys came off as more interesting. It faded fast though as it only lasted a year or two but their reruns did well in syndication

I was more aware of the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books than this particular TV series. As much as I'm keen to watch this show, it's the 1930's Nancy Drew films that make me more curious. Now that I know that the sainted Glen A Larson was behind the majority of the episodes, I want to discover this show even more. Thanks for posting mate, much appreciated.

"The Hardy Boys" & to a lesser extent, "The Nancy Drew Mysteries", were underrated series, that provided entertainment for the whole family & not just for children & teens! They should be re-run today, to gain an entirely 'new youth' audience, similar to the way Disney reissued his classic films!

This used to broadcast early Saturday evenings on the BBC in the UK which was a key schedule slot and I remember it well. I think it was particularly notable for Shaun Casssidy and his popularity and that 'Fallon used to be in that show'-referencing Pamela Bellwood and her DYNASTY role. Had a great theme tune.

I always wanted them to come out with a Tom Swift Jr series. Loved the books as a kid and I think it would have done good ratings.

Leslie McFarlane was not a pseudonym of Harriet Staratemeyer or anyone else. He was a Canadian newspaper reporter who wrote 19 of the first 25 books.

I’ve always wondered if Parker and Shaun remained in contact after the show. It makes no difference, but I like to think they did, as the books and later the series meant a lot to me as a kid.

It would have been awesome if someone would have stayed true to The Three Investigators and made a series like these were. The movies version of The Three Investigators were such a joke it was ridiculous.

I loved The 3 Investigators novels. I only saw 1 movie of "The 3 Investigators" and i agree that it was lame. Hopefully,somebody does a better version.

I did not blame Pamela Sue Martin for leaving the series when some idiot producers came up with the dumb idea of combing The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew shows into one and relegating her to being a side kick. That was a dumb decision on their part. She was wonderful as Nancy Drew.

Loved watching this show back in the Seventies. One of the all-time classic theme tunes and the 'maze' opening of the first season was extremely eerie. With many of the mysteries being apparently supernatural in nature, I've always thought of the show as being a companion piece to ABC and Universal's 'Kolchak the Night Stalker' from a couple of years earlier. I preferred the Nancy Drew episodes to the Hardy Boys, and not just because Pamela Sue Martin was gorgeous. Hated the way the character of Nancy was gradually side-lined during the second season. And while I didn't like Nancy being recast, I didn't mind the replacement actress - she did the best she could, under the circumstances. In the third season Nancy as dropped, the mystery/paranormal angle was dropped, the amateur detectives angle was dropped, and it became a standard action/adventure show about a couple of government agents. In fact I consider the third season - 'The Hardy Boys' - to be an entirely different show, a spin off from the original instead of a continuation.

I had a hardy boys lunch box but was not home to watch the show. I liked the van on the lunch box.

Shaun had a decent run being a Pop Star 🌟 but should have continued acting, I guess he's behind the camera and has been a Director for many years now. Funny seeing Rick Springfield in an episode little did anyone know how much of a mega star ✨ he was going to be. I Did enjoy the Series.

Rick Springfield was doing alot of american shows in 1978-1981. Wonder Woman, Rockford Files, Chips, Battlestar Galactica and his big break as Dr Noah Drake on General Hospital for 2 years , which really launched his career and the song Jessie's Girl from that time as well.

I had all the books and watched every episode of the tv shows. I got my 1st Nancy Drew book when I was 8 years old. A gift of a first edition from my grandmother. Then my uncle gave me his Hardy Boys books when I started collecting both sets. Pamela Sue Martin was what killed the Nancy Drew storyline IMO. I, personally, couldn't stand her because I thought she was a terrible actress.

@@drjhale9801 Didn't care much for any of them. They seemed to have trouble casting Nancy. I was never a Parker Stevenson fan either but he did ok as Frank and then as Billy in North & South. Basically played both characters the same way. Neither his nor Pamela Sue's faces seemed to show any believable emotions no matter what character the played. I loved Shaun Cassidy though but he came frim a family of actors so he should have been good. Lol.

I wanted to root the Nancy actress😉
