Aaron and Claire, your recipes have helped me immensely. I am married to a Korean and I made this Tteokbokki recipe recently for us and it was a hit! Thank you for making Korean food accessible for us English speakers while not sacrificing authenticity. You guys are god sends. Thank you!!

I also love that he's keeping the recipes authentic! When I want another country's food I want it exactly how its served there not altered. It's always better that way to me!
"Go to the f**king gym." 🤣 I wish the fresh rice cakes portions at my Korean market weren't so big, I can never finish them before they go bad so I always end up buying frozen rice cakes.

@@AaronandClaire, cooked leftover rice cakes are awful after being frozen. They become, kind of, powdery.
@AaronandClaire
11 ай бұрын
@justtubingby8342 That must have been too dehydrated. How about wrapping them with a plastic wrap first and keeping them in ziplock bag? And make sure to soak them in some cold water for at least 20 minutes before cooking. This should be much much better! 😍
Claire's passion for tteokbokki comes through. I use Japanese dashi stock as a short cut. Otherwise I use kelp and anchovy to make the broth.

Ouuu does the dashi stock really be a dupe ?! I was thinking that too ❤
My wife is Filipina, normally doesn't like spicy food, but she loves tteokbokki when I make it for her. I use the little red filipino hot dogs in place of fish cake. Honey as the sweetener for the sauce, as well as a heaping tablespoon of minced garlic in the sauce. I also include about half a roughly chopped yellow or sweet onion. Tteokbokki is easily my favorite Korean recipe because it's so delicious and so easy to make. I like to keep any leftover tteokbokki sauce and use it over rice, or sauce chicken wings with it, or even use it on ribs in place of BBQ sauce.

Put the left over sauce on french fries!!! If you bring fries home pop them in the air fryer 1-3 minutes to crisp and warm and pour the warm sauce over the top. "Korean Poutine"

Made this exactly as written, and it was SOOOO delicious. I’ve only had frozen, pre-packaged tteokbokki before, and this was a million times better. I’ll definitely make it again!

I love listening to Claire speak
I just made this for dinner and it did in fact change my life. This sauce is possibly one of the best things I’ve ever tasted
I finally did it! I bought your cookbook! So excited!

I love your food, everything I try turns out so delicious and my Aussie family is really enjoying learning about Korean food.
Watching your video made me crave for tteokbokki! Would love to try your wonderful recipe! ❤
I love to watch people enjoy the food they grew up eating. You can see the childish delight, the sheer enjoyment of their native dishes. (Now I’m going to hunt for a recipe on how to make these “rice cakes” because we can’t get those here. And also a substitute for fish cakes, because I don’t eat fish!)

Can you get aburaage (fried tofu skin)? I can usually find yubuchobap kits at korean markets. Ive tried it and fish cakes and I think its just as good as fish cakes. Just remember to rinse the skin with hot water before using to get the old oil taste off.

Woah. 4th tteokkboki recipe I’ve tried and it’s the best one. Spicy, but sooooo good!
I recently got your cookbook and I love it! Today I made Tteokbokki minus the eggs (forgot) and fish cakes (couldn't find!?). I already had some dried rice cakes but found a pack of those big fresh ones, so I used one of those too. I topped mine with sliced Havarti and a little bit of sesame oil and green onion of course... Super easy, customizable, and sooo delicious. Thanks for the recipe, Aaron & Claire!!
I've heard 'bring egg' 'bring beer' 'bring some rice' ' bring some kimchi' but today i heard for the first time ever - ' bring the corn dog' Sooo Gooood 😂😂 The recipe is amazing btw even though i can only find frozen rice cakes and frozen fish cake.

Aaron - This was so good!! I made Tteokbokki once before with anchovy stock but your recipe was so much better. And anyone hesitating on the corn syrup - DO IT !! It's so worth it. (I think of it as an occasional treat to myself :P) It was a perfect balance of spicy with sweetness.

One of my absolute favorites. Make it all the time. But now, thanks to you, I'll make it even better from now on. Up until now, I was just trying to copy the flavor according to the restaurant's flavor. The only thing i was missing was the corn syrup. I have been adding Miren instead. It was always delicious 🌸

Thank you for this recipe! I made this today and it’s the best ddukboki I’ve ever made. 👏👏👏👏

I desperately want to try these. Seeing as the ChungChun that recently opened near me in South London doesn't sell this, just corn dogs. it looks like I'll have to try to make it myself. Wish me luck 🤞

독일 베를린에서 안녕하세요!!! 감사합니다 for another wonderful recipe! My neighbors, who also have a small Korean market in front of my house, taught me this recipe. Soooo awesome. I look forward to trying your version too. I'm also interested in the Korean "corn dog" recipe that Claire refers to at 08:56, but the overlay card with the link is missing. It would be very kind if you could please add that overlay. Also, you may know about this, but in Sabae-City, Fukui prefecture, Japan, there is a deli that makes an amazing, delicious "corn dog" that they call Sabae Dog (サバエドッグ). Basically they form rice into the shape of a plump hot dog, push chop sticks into the end of the rice dog, wrap bacon around it, then dip it in beaten eggs, cover with panko and deep fry. Sabae Dog is served in paper cups with a kind of tonkatsu sauce. Delicious!! Please consider making a Korean version on your channel! This is a link to a short video shows Sabae Dogs being made and served at the Sasaki shop in Sabae-City, where the Sabae Dog was invented... kzread.infoia9amEo0FjY - 잘먹겠습니다!!

“Go to the 🖕🏽 gym.”😂😂😂🔥
I adore Korean food, but unfortunately my city only has two Korean-focused restaurants and neither of them offer tteokbokki. I’ve only ever had instant tteokbokki and it was way too sweet for my taste, but from what I’ve heard I don’t think that’s what all tteokbokki tastes like. I do live pretty close to an Asian grocery store with Korean ingredients, so I’m definitely going to try this recipe.
This video was spicier than normal 😂 I LOVE TTEOKBOKKI!!!! I make it basically like this, but I think the fresh rice cake makes a big difference because it never has as good a texture as from a restaurant. I only have frozen available near me. Someday I will make my own rice cake!
