@@Shuttle1909 I thought the same thing! I think it's the little bangs, hahaha. He also resembles Raymond Burr and Ross Martin who co-starred in the TV show "The Wild Wild West". Someone said it was Buddy Hackett, but the eyes and nose are not at all like his. I have searched high and low trying to find out who that actor is, but Guenevere is not in the credits (not too unusual, since he doesn't have any lines). There were three men listed in the cast whose characters aren't named, so I started tracking them down, but couldn't find a picture of any of them anywhere! I even looked up their other TV and movie credits but still no pictures. Max Balchowsky was a stunt man, so I kind of ruled him out. Another one, Stan Duke, was a Black man--- I found him on an episode of the "Police Story" TV show. The last of them, Alan Fordney, played a sportscaster in "Grand Prix" so I skimmed through that movie to see if I could spot a resemblance to anyone there, but no success. However, he was in an episode of Perry Mason where his character actually has a name, so I'm going to track that down at the library and see if it's him. I watched a clip from that episode on KZread and thought I'd hit paydirt, but it turned out it was Raymond Burr himself playing a dual role in the episode (The Case of the Dead Ringer) So if I don't ID him in that show, I'm wondering if Guenevere was an anonymous cameo by someone famous like Raymond Burr or Ross Martin.
Jim: "What are you doing here?" Carole: "I wish I knew. I REALLY WISH I KNEW!!!" 😆

A couple of weirdos, Guinevere…
David Tomlinson is severely underrated in the history of film actors. He had an absolutely god-tier level of comic timing and line-delivering abilities.
R.I.P Dean Jones. You were "Mr. Disney" :):)

I have a Herbie documentary video about how they made the movie and how it became the highest grossing film of 1969. Learned the hippie scene from Michelle Lee and Dean Jones. Dean wanted to play the hippie and asked the producer Bill Walsh if could. So one day he went to the make up artist room and dressed up as the hippie. When he came back, everyone was stunned and didn't recognized him. He started mumbling which spooked most of the producers and staff. Mr. Walsh finally realized it was Dean all along and said, "I think you can do it." So Dean got the role.

"Hey! Knock it off, will you, sis. I ain't saying this is the classiest joint in town, but we gotta draw the line somewhere. Come on! Back in your seat!" I LOVED this movie as kid and I used to say that line all the time.
"We all prisoners chickee baby. We all locked in" Man, life is true. Hippie wisdom. 😆

One of my favourite films as a kid :D Apart from Herbie (obviously), I was entranced by the 1963 Apollo GT (Thorndyke's yellow car) stunning car with a Buick V8.
@db95008

Mine too, movie and the car. My father owned a 1963 Apollo 3500 GT when this movie came out. We went to the drive in to see the Love Bug in his Apollo GT. He knew his car was in the movie is why. It seems funny now looking back. Most of the cars racing are worm millions of dollars now. Its crazy in that respect.
The little car takes first...and third place. LMAO
You gotta love Tennessee

Buddy Hackett is right up there as one of the best actors/ comedians of all time. I think he passed in 2003. So sad but hopefully he's having a wonderful time in Heaven with now Dean and so many great people we miss so much today. They definitely make these kinds of movies, TV shows and people anymore on planet Earth.

Me too!! Especially that sound he lets out at 9:50!
0:29 That particular Beetle they used had so many problems that they used it just for the first scene where Herbie meets Jim Douglas, and this scene, where it just poses. After the film, Dean Jones bought it and kept it as his own car. :)
That policeman at the beginning is brilliant. Such a daft, soft touch.
"Now you're speaking my language!"- I just about fell out of my chair!
David Tomlinson died of a stroke in 2000. Rest in peace david.

Its very sad but he would be deid anyways becuz born in 1917, But in ways he might be still alive, like Dick Van dyke
I inherited a bunch of these older Disney movies as a kid in the 90s and this was in my top 3 for sure. Little me always died laughing when Thorndike gets caught inside the car. Thanks for posting!
9:52 - David Tomlinson, I salute you for making me laugh so much!
I was born in 1986 and the first time I saw this film was in 1990/91. I remember it like it was yesterday ... It was from this film that I learned that cars have a soul! Not in the playful sense of the film, of course. But they have ...
Such an awesome film.
Just not fair, I miss those times soo much, remember every time this movie came out, we was heading to the drive-in.
This is my first viewing of this movie , and I live the magic it reeks of the golden years of Disney.
"Groovy"... ah, haven't heard that word in a while.

Yes he was! Love him and rest in peace Buddy Hackett.
For years the back half on top of the front half car prop could been seen sitting in the Disney back lot storage area as you drove down the 101 freeway in Burbank.
There's a "quality" about the actual film format itself-the colors, textures, etc. in this 1968 film that make the the 1997 and 2005 Herbie movies seem "dumbed down" in comparison put I can't put my finger on it. Anyone want to chime in?
@TheJpSho
9 жыл бұрын
Yes I know what you mean! 1960s films just happen to have that it seems and sounds much more professional the 1997 and 2005 movies seemed more childish
"I don't care how cracked your father's rice bowl is!" LOL
2:45 Fun fact. Those hippies are Dean Jones and Buddy Hacket (the male leads) in makeup.
...before I lose my TEMPA!!!!! LOL
Jim Douglas: "Will you knock it off, Tennessee!"
Hippie Guy: Out of sight, man. I wouldn't have believed it. Hippie Girl: Groovy, pop, Groovvy.

This was my best film to watch as a kid. When I went on holiday when I was younger, I forced my parents to take the Video of this so I could watch it!

Hey, who's the guy in the fur coat?!?
lol what a goofy laugh 3:58
All Herbie did was use what Thorndyke said in order to win. xD
9:31 - “GEEP!”
8:48 It is crazy those pumps could only go up to $9.99 worth of gas which would be about 24 gallons!
Thank you man Great childhood with this film
Did Dean Jones play a dual role when he said ‘Are you giving that doodlebug a workout?, I’ll go easy on you!!!’
I love Buddy Hackett in this movie. Funny guy!
1:34 - Herbie "whizzes" oil on Thorndyke! - LOL!
This was a great movie
I remember going to the theater with my older brother when i was a kid to see this movie,in his VW bug,,the drive home was so fun,i kept expecting the car to pop a wheelie and take off, ah the magic of movies.
This is the premiere pilot Disney film The Love Bug. I think this person in real life will go for the race driving car in Sports. Dean Jones aka Jim Douglas will win $1,000,000. And he has to start his career in 1968 and he will step aside on NBC Sports, CBS Sports, and ABC Sports.
10:03-10:06 "uh yeah, you are losing your nerve."
Coooooooooooooneeeeeey Island. Mwuhahahahahha 😂
Tennessee is pissed lol 5:25
I miss Joe Flynn
Can anyone translate the conversation between Tennessee and Mr. Wu?
One thing I noticed was the Lamborghini turns into a Jaguar E Type when Herbie starts smashing it.
@jameshay7247
7 жыл бұрын
Probably someone rolled a Jaguar E, and the prop people located it at a junkyard...
You forgot the scene at the first Riverside race where Tennessee says "NOW HERBIE! NOW!" and Herbie sprints past the other cars and squirts oil at Thorndyke for trying to block him.
Now Herbie! Now! Nnnnnnoww!!
9:15 - without a shadow of a doubt the best lines committed to celluloid!
Yes, that is Michelle Lee (she played Karen on Knot's Landing, tv show).
i love this little car to bits! blows Kitt out of the window!
We love Herbie! that's why we are "randomtandem53" Herbie may not be very popular at the moment, but he's got our vote! I
REALLY REALLY love this and I hope really like the herbie the love bug
Love this movie. Haven't seen it since I was little been trying to find it on dvd. I want a 68 Herbie!!!!

Well herbie is a 63'
One of my favorite scenes was to see Tomilnsons's car chained to the pump island while the aged Chinese fellow pumped gas into the tank at the rate of one dram per minute...hahahahaha...Shouldn't Tomlinson's character have been named "Reprobate" in this movie? I cherish the thought that Tomlinson took a flight to New York on 9-11...
just bought myself a '64 for this :'-)
1:43 Most epic uni-brow ever.
Best movie ever
Tennesse: COME IN! COME IN! COME IN!
I forgot all about the bizarre delivery of Joe E. Ross in this film. I was only 8 after all. Now, I can see that for some reason, perhaps the San Francisco location, it's supposed to be 100% an emulation of Warner Oland or Sidney Toler. (Charlie Chan) Take your pick.
Classic movie. They don't make them like this anymore. Who cares about special effects this was enough back then.
@anonymootle Yeah. His expression made me feel so sorry for him :( But I'm sure he'll see Herbie again soon!
10:45 THe cut 2 Bugs into 2 halfs and mount the front cabin with the rear chassis, so the had 2 working Engines, one moves forward the other backward...
Ooh!ooh! The cop is Gunther toody
Herbie was the first AI selfdriving car in hsitory
Michele Lee before her days on Knots Landing - she looked the same too.
