Negroni Week! A classic Negroni cocktail generally calls for equal parts but I've opted for a more gin-forward approach for this 3 ingredient cocktail. I like to change between local gins depending on the mood. If I want a softer, sweeter style Negroni then I will opt for Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth with its subtle vanilla notes otherwise I'll swap the sweet vermouth for Punt e Mes for a bold, bitter Negroni variation.
INGREDIENTS
- 45mL Gin (1½ oz)
- 30mL Sweet Vermouth (1 oz)
- 30mL Campari (1 oz)
METHOD
1. Combine the 3 ingredients into your double old fashioned glass
2. Stir with ice
3. Garnish with a large twist of orange

Nice. Negronis are my fave, and I love discovering new recipes. Thanks for your fun channel, Steve!
Great review! Great Content as always! My favorite version is equal parts Beefeater Gin, Aperol and Sweet Vermouth over one large square of Ice. Stirred and garnished with orange peel and some orange zest. This one is a perfect balance in my opinion.
I like this one when I'm making one for myself. Usually end up going the classic route when doing it for others👍
The pins are so cute and love your preferred recipe! Will have to try it!
You're a good bloke Steve!
Hi Steve, this has just appeared on my KZread roll. So I watched it. My favourite is 50ml each of Malfy grapefruit forward gin, Carpano Antica Formula vermouth and Campari. The zest oils are very important to the flavour and I use either of orange or red grapefruit and make sure a good express of oils and rub around the glass before putting in as garnish. Sometimes I stir with ice then pour over a rock. Other times I stir in the large Old Fashioned glass with a rock of ice in it. Nick from York
Im watching all these videos of negroni week since I had one for the first time in my life just a few hours ago. Love your videos Steve! you woke my curiosity about this drink. I think i will have to try the different variations. Cheers ;)

Haaaa Negroni, what a great way to end a day ! I like to put strawberries in my campari and let it sit for 4-5 days, with a bombay sapphire and a classic sweet vermouth, perfect negroni for my mouth !
Greetings, My wife and I have been following you for a year. WE stumbled onto your channel last year on Negroni Week. Thank you for a wonderful trip and some fun cocktails. pax, PL

thank a lot for your video it aids a whole lot.
Love your videos Steve! Could you show us the technique to stir with the spoon? I have a feeling that the back of the spoon always stays flat against the glass, but I can never make that happen and it always clangs around. Cheers from Montreal, Canada!
@mehmetayaz93

You're right. The spoon has to turn in your hand as you turn it in the glass, so that back side of the spoon is gliding on the side of the glass. It easier said than done, though :) You can practice with just ice and water until you get the technique.
The gin got me thinking ... can you do a video about sloe gin? Do you get sloes in Aus? I've heard lots about it and want to try making it, but what would you recommend using it in?
Finally found that Antica formula Steve, can’t wait to try it! Thanks for the video

Update: I went to the liquor store yesterday, and bought the ingredients for a basic negroni, and after trying one for myself, I can see why this drink might be divisive. Campari is EXTREMELY BITTER! However, having said that, I find myself coming back to this drink again, and again for some reason. If I make another one today, it will be my third. Thanks Steve! Happy negroni week, and thanks for the recipe.

My wife’s favourite: A Lighter Negroni 1 part lilliet rose 1 part luxardo aperitivo (or aperol) 1 part gin (hendricks as is a lighter cocktail) Built with a block of ice and morello cherry (and dash of cherry juice if desired)

Hey Steve, I love Punt e Mes. Here is my favorite. 1oz Punt e Mes 3/4oz Campari 1oz Tanqueray Dry Gin Rangpur Orange Twist and/or lemon twist. Very classic but with great orange and lemon flavors coming from the gin and Punt e Mes.
@StevetheBartender_

Hey Steve. Are you going to do any negroni week videos this year???
Equal parts manchester raspberry, antica and aperol. Try it
Steve thanks for all the wonderful content. Do you find that sweet vermouth goes stale/off if you keep it opened in the fridge too long? Been hesitating to drop the $35 local price on a full liter of Carpano Antica for my home bar since I don't drink super often and don't want my pricy bottle of vermouth to start tasting off 1/3 of the way through it.

Yes, definitely is the fresher the better. To extend its shelf life you can also invest in a wine pump to remove as much air as possible... not sure how long it would extend its life for though..
Feature some Aussie spirits! Bitter Orange, Regal Rogue, Maidenii
My favorite negroni is 1.5 Mezcal, 1 Sweet Vermouth, .75 Campari (more or less your portions) I use the same proportions regardless of main spirit because I think it lets the spirit stand out instead of getting drowned out by the Campari (which I find to be an overpowering flavor). | Love the video as always, can't wait to see what the rest of your videos this week are!

Antica Formula is the business!! Tried it once and never went back for homemade Negronis!
I always use Punt e Mes.
Hey Steve, where's the info about the giveaway? I love your channel, and I do enjoy a Negroni from time to time. At home I use Hendrick's gin, Cocchi di Torino, and Campari, and like you, I prefer a slightly tempered bitterness, so I do roughly 40ml gin, 30ml vermouth, and 25ml Campari.
I used to love Carpano Antica, and then one time I gave someone a taste and they mentioned it reminded them of coca cola. Now everytime I taste carpano, it tastes like flat coke.
I've just bought Campari so that I can finally make a Negroni. The classic one, since I only have Martini Rossi as vermouth, which i guess is far from Antica Formula.
@jbennison5672

Cinzano rosso is actually one of the best for negroni in my opinion. Tried the Torino Vermouth and that wasn't as good.
It's so hard to find different types of Vermouth from Dan Murphy's. Most of the times they don't even have stock it seems.

So, I’m left with campari and sweet vermouth (And I don’t know anyone that like negronis around here so I can’t just give it to them). maybe you could help me? when you have time and if you can, can you give me a recipe or recipes that would help me use the campari and sweet vermouth ? Thank youuuu!

To use the Campari, consider using it in complex drinks like Tiki Drinks for a gentle touch of bitterness that balances the more sweet ingredients!
@Barprints

You can try an Enzoni and a Jungle Bird to help get the most out of your Campari bottle. Those are 2 of my go to cocktails for people looking to ease into Campari. For the vermouth maybe a Manhattan
Should I be storing my vermouth in the fridge?
