Classic Mystery Radio-The Whistler-"Stranger in the House"

The Whistler was a mystery/suspense radio show, the main star of which was the ironic twist at the end of almost every episode. Usually a criminal's activity was exposed either by an overlooked (vital) detail or by their own stupidity. The Whistler himself narrated, often commenting directly upon the action, taunting the criminal from an omniscient perspective.
Each dramatic episode began with the whistling of a haunting tune which was composed by Wilbur Hatch and featured Dorothy Roberts whistling with an orchestra.
"I am The Whistler, and I know many things, for I walk by night. I know many strange tales, hidden in the hearts of men and women who have stepped into the shadows. Yes....I know the nameless terrors of which they dare not speak."

So good. I love all-time radio. Less news and political stuff and more old time radio! More interesting, more characters, fascinating language and references, the golden age and a whole New World to explore!

Great plot. My wife figured it out shortly before the reveal, damn her. She always figures them out, I never do. It's a brilliantly executed twist. The Whistler is a masterclass in quick, cheesy plots with a twist. That they could crank these out so consistently is really impressive. It's a truly quality show.

Another beautifully written and acted episode. And I just hear Gerald Mohr as the 2nd Philip Marlow and Virginia Gregg, what a career, best known for one of the Jack Webb regulars on Dragnet, and also the voice of Mrs. Bates in Psycho and sequels.
