Classic Mini w/ BMW K1100 Engine Head || Onboard & Pedal Cam

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This 1980´s Austin Mini is driven by Ben Bonfield of B´s Racing. Powered by a "Twin-Kam" Engine tuned by Specialists Components, it uses the original 1380cc Block but is fitted with a BMW K1100 motorbike engine head, in its most aggresive state of tune, producing around 165Hp/8.500Rpm. Moving less than 600Kg it makes for a properly quick machine.
Add to that some goodies like AT Powerower shaftless billet throttle bodies, a Dog-leg Gearbox and completely revamped Suspension and Braking components for a quite surprising final package. It was present on Retro Rides Gathering at Shelsley Wash, showing its potential. And you can observe it here both from inside and outside, with an added Pedal Cam to fully appreciate the machine in action.

    Thanks, it’s been a fantastic little engine and car. It’s so much fun to drive it hard. We are making a couple of changes for this year with the mini. The JKD involute dog box will be getting a refresh and we will be dropping the final drive down from 3.9 back down to 4.5, we are hoping to rebuild the Genesis 16v engine which was built in 2010 a short stroker. That engine was making 175bhp and was a bit more highly strung.

    It’s heading around the 300bhp per tonne, the car itself is about 600kgs, we know that there is more weight that could come out of the car as we retain, steel wings, full subframes, steel roof and steel boot floor but if we did swap any parts out it would move us into a different class.

    Nic Wilson Don't think it won it's class? Shelsly is a power hill bit in that class, crossing and carousel need to be absolutely flat. Would of been interesting to see the speed into bottom ess

  • @reallybigkidd

    @reallybigkidd

    4 жыл бұрын

    gothic pagan you are right crossing and carousel are flat and that car has been flat through both unfortunately I had tried kennel flat earlier in the day and resulted in clipping the recticel on the outside and ended up off the ground and sideways and after pushing my luck once I didn’t fancy chancing it twice, we don’t normally come up to Shelsley to compete as it’s not in our area. We only make it once a year for retro rides event.

    reallybigkidd Thanks for replying. Not a great venue for small engine cars. Do you know what the speed was at bottom esses? Or was nothing timed

  • @reallybigkidd

    @reallybigkidd

    4 жыл бұрын

    gothic pagan nothing was timed for insurance purposes but going off the go pro footage I was timing 35s with the lifts, I did the mini festival a week later and the go pro timings were down around the 33s, held it in third flat through crossing and carousel and was banging the limiter in 3rd before entering bottom ess so looking at 85 ish again not timed and no speed traps. It’s not that it doesn’t suit the car, I love visiting Shelsley but unfortunately competition entry fees are what have put me off from there £183 for like 5 runs where as we get 8 runs around £150 down our way.

    Gearbox is all good, it’s a straight cut Jack Knight racing involute dog box so it does sound quite crunchy. Originally in a rally car the box had a rebuild over the last couple of years but it is a classic box that was originally designed for the early A series remote box 1960s-1970s. The later Rod boxes are a bit better but whilst this box is crunchy it feels less brutal than the modern ones.
