Classic EMD and Great Horns on the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
On a beautiful July 30, 2010 on former B&O trackage, with a lot of heritage left in place, such as CPL's and freight cars and cabooses, we explore some of the Buffalo and Pittsburgh operations in Southern New York / Northern Pennsylvania. We catch two trains, one being a through-freight, SIJB, and another being a local, BR1. These trains are powered by classic EMD power:
SIJB (Salamanca, NY - Johnsonburg, PA)
B&P SD45-2 459 (built 1969 to SP)
B&P SD40T-2 3302 (built 1978 to SP)
B&P SD45-2 455 (built 1969 to SP)
(The SD45-2's are not pure, all have had modifications, 455 is pretty much an SD40-2)
BR1 (Bradford, PA local)
B&P GP9 626 (built 1958 to NW)
The SIJB is a southbound portion of the train which makes the run from Buffalo to Pittsburgh. This train has a great sounding horn and is seen at five locations. The local also has a great Leslie RS-5T horn and we watch this veteran shift the refinary with a former B&O caboose. Got to love the high, Notch-8 full throttle, shoving action!
Sit back and enjoy, the sights and sounds of a short line railroad, which are much more appreciable than any Class I could provide.

Old EMD's are the veterans of the railway, but they will never give up.
who knew b&p had an awesome taste in power
I love the B&P. Their wide variety of power is quite fascinating.
great vid
Welcome to the real railroad.
cool video.
Heck of a good rs-5t!
567...music to my ears.
looks like a gp18 to me. look at the fans
Excellent video.I always like to see locals switches. So much history in this.
WOW! I didn't know that they still have a SD40T-2 and SD45's!

The WC locomotive guy was a damned genius. Hell of a guy.
Great trains, great horns, and great video!
nice video and beautiful power train. bower is power train is beautiful look and listen train song" C")
@o00o00ozy The two SD45's that remain on the NYSW are still 3600HP V20 645's. They have only been upgraded to -2 electronics.
Yes sir!!!!!!
Nice !
great!
I see number 626 regularly in the Rochester area.
@rockguitarist946 B&P lists 459 as a SD45-2. It was rebuilt from an SD45, should be rated 3200 HP. 455 is technically an SD40-2 in an SD45 shell, rated at 3000 HP. If you can find any original SD45 or SD45-2 these days, let me know, because they've all been modified so much.

Very nicely done, the GP9 sounds great!
Great job. Love the sounds of EMD's.
I LOVE the sound of that GP9!
Superb vid, Eric! That "old Lady" Geep, still hasplenty of spunk left in her! Regarding SD-452's, in 1987 Wisconin Central bought used SD-45,s for mainline power with the3,600 h.p. engine. Their shop cut down the h.p. rating to 3,200 h.p. and the result is that got a lot of :bang for the buck" and prevented any further crank-shaft problems which was a design flaw when they were first introduced.
in Bradford we have gp40s and gp38s and sometimes a gp9 sneaks in

@@ChristianNoelTheRailfanner I catch these trains
@rockguitarist946 Oh yeah! And NS's are technically SD40-2's in an SD45-2 shell. CSX also as a few of those I think, in fact, very recently one CSX SD45-2 and an NS SD45-2 were paired together on CSAO job in New Jersey.
Ah, the mighty 645. Love that sound.
awesome video and that station salamanca has the same name as one on which i use to film trains here in mexicio jejej thumbs up and favourites!!!!
When I heard the air horn on the Geep I was like.. You've got to be kidding me? Talk about a jolted wake up call!!
Awesome video dude! Love that tunnel motor!
Train sounds... So soothing to me. They remind me of Camp Kon-O-Kwee.
DANG ERIC. This is just stunning. That Geep sounded incredible... couldn't stop re-playing those throttlin scenes. AMAZING video dude!!
Great EMD 567 sound and is same as our railroad engines, but I never saw they play with the throttle! Always idle when they pass-by.
Excellent video, Eric! Man that GP9 sounds so amazing! And the horn on it as well. WOW!
Very well may have been my buddy Ron Stafford at the throttle of one of those trains. He recently retired from the B&P.
All B&P and R&S Trackage is on former B&O territory, except for the new sidings and lines that have been built after the B&O
i live right by the buffalo and pittsburgh yard. its so big and you can see b&p,csx,up,amtrak, gmtx,cp,cn,bnsf,ns,soo, conrail and thats about it if not a lot more you should check it out
Woahh!! at 10:15, awesome thottle up of the GP9!! Thanks for this video, I love the GP9 Sound, this engines are the mother model of EMD-GM 319 series in Spain, and 319 locomotives, are very importants in my "railfan life"
There is nothing on the face of this Earth that sounds better than an EMD 16-567C. Nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch. I don't know how many times I played this video through surround sound but I imagine I had it turned up to the point where it was as loud as the actual locomotives. This has got to be one of my all time favorite videos on youtube. Have you considered making full length movies and selling them?
Ahhh the 710's they sound gr8888
Because shortlnes tend to do more industry switching and do so with 2 man crews....visibility becomes a greater issue. In addition some railroads have seen a trend where lawsuits involving grade crossing accidents may have attorneys bring up the fact that the accident "could" have been prevented if the railroad has greater visibility. Also, in many cases the Class I railroads chopped the nose before they sold them to the shortline. (For example, all of ATSF's GP7u locomotives)
@rockguitarist946 They could be SD45's that were modified to SD45-2 status.
ha these trains pass by my house
nicesssssssssssss

Those 45-2s have the angled radiators of SD45s. How does that work out?
I love GP9s.They have the same 567 as the E/F Series locomotives does. How old is this one?
Another great video presentations. Those hors are fabulous on the B&P . By the way; to your knowledge, what is the load & customer for the PSR HT hoppers at the end of the video? Love you vids following up on as many as I can find

Not sure, I think there is a place in Erie which takes those cars.
Anyone have any idea what happened to the caboose ? It sat at the foster brook siding for a while. Then the Bradford yard, then was used a bit. But it’s been a few years since I last seen it. Did it get torched ?

Hi, Eric, Thank you for responding. Have you heard or seen that Progress Rail Systems, i.e. CAT, has now manufactured PRV 43 Units with 3,600 h.p. CAT Engines? A railfan down in AL has been videographing them over the past year. They are sticking them in SD-60E car bodies. Wonder if that is replace the original SD-45!
The gp9 isn't in Bradford anymore apparently it's up at gernatts
