"An idyllic slice of American Life". Pure Classic: "Suburban Shopper" and "Open Road" are forever my favorite Barbie Vintage Fashions. In the early 2000', when I started collecting vintage, I got both reproduction but they did not fit my vintage taste, I wanted the real thing. It took many years before I was able to find both complete and near mint condition. There are two versions of the "Suburban Shopper" Fashion, The one released in 1959 only and has "TM" in the tag. The dress was made in a lighter blue color and it has the phone with the metal dial. The 1960 version has the "R" tag with darker Blue (which I much prefer) and the phone no longer has the metal dial it is all plastic. My set from 1960 came with the 1959 phone with the metal dial, and apparently, so did yours. The inspiration for this dress came from the Harpers Bazaar 1957 pictorial "The Midsummer Blues" where it shows a model in a very similar dress leaning on a Blue Chevy BelAir. Two years later "Suburban Shopper " was born. YES!!!! REPRO BLOOPERS: The dress made with a "Rayon Blend" (very stiff, "Roman Holiday" repro anyone?) the skirt rises higher than the original and the Hat has a higher shell. Thank you for another interesting video.

I just LOVE the old Barbie clothes. It really breaks my heart to see the very cheap way the clothes/accessories are made. I still have my old Barbies and clothes from the early 70s somewhere at my mom's house (hopefully still intact). I didn't have anything from the early 60's, although a couple friends did have that blue dress that I remember.

your channel has really helped me learn more about how to take care about classic barbie’s, and admire them more. I doubt i’ll ever own a classic or repro barbie, but if I do, your channel will help.

I had a straw hat and it wasn't white but pretty much the same color as the tannish one. Hope this helps! It was from around 63-65.

One Christmas it must hard times. Mom sewed me and my sister an entire wardrobe. It was only after mom died and we were sitting around looking at pictures did I realize she had used one of her summer dresses to make our wardrobes.

I don’t see why there has to be a landline phone while she obviously is doing some shopping. It doesn’t make any sense.
