Shields need a lot of work when she is on the ground. She throws punches wildly and her opponent rushes in to take her to the ground. She has figured out how to get out of clinches and holds when she is on the ground.

She literally is helpless in the ground. Every time she goes into attack mode she completely forgets about defense and she get's taken down almost all the time when she's in that attack mode. She needs a whole lot of work on the ground or she's gonna be taken down each and every time and beat-up on the ground.

Chuck Liddell was probably the best example of the sprawl and brawl philosophy that Claressa can use, but Chuck was also a D1 (or was it D2 ?) wrestler in college. Takedowns and takedown defense are such an acquired art. I wonder if Claressa can do it?

The 2 times Clarissa stepped into the octagon, her opponents didn't want any part of those hands. Her 1st fight was stopped on strikes. If her takedown defense and ground game improve, she's going to be a wrecking ball! Much respect to her for coming to MMA!

Shields is doing great things athletically, but I think it's very hard for a volume striker to transition to mma tbh. Without the KO power, it's not threatening for a grappler to just close to distance. Then there's strikers like Izzy with length advantages who can use that to keep grapplers out. A fighter like Claressa Shields will have to learn grappling the long and hard way.

So because someone trains and knows how to use their whole body besides just boxing it's somehow looked down. Since when did just using hands represents a whole fight. Specially in a UFC fight where you are not just using 1 fighting method. You have more versatile people here. Anyways, you are an idiot to think that just because CS specializes in using her hands then a UFC fighter has to fight her with hands as well. More an idiot to downgrade someone who has more fighting methods/skills than just someone who can box.

I like both ladies especially Abigail, THATS THAT MEXICAN HEART FOR YA! Clarissa got a bit too cocky, she needs ALOT to improve and I’m not even hating just a real observation. She is nowhere near ready to compete against a real mma fighter. She’s only got a punchers chance, but nothing else honestly. Hope to see her improve her ground game! Good luck to both ladies in their future bouts!

These ladies will improve and be real contenders soon, if they put their heart in to it! Good fight in my eyes!

She is also learning a new sport in her twenties, impressive that she has even made it this far, but lets be real, it will not be easy for her to reach the very top of MMA unless she really improves fast. She has already started so late in mixed martial arts.

She got freaking robbed and idk why nobody is talking about it. The new scoring rules specifies that control means nothing, it's all about damage. And Shields made way more damages, she hitted hard, almost dropped Montes and has been very precise. Except the 3rd round (the last 30 seconds lmao), Montes did nothing but controling Shields without making damages, passing the guard, or attempting subs. Y'all watch a sport without understanding its rules.

I am not a Shields fan but credit to her for trying mma and taking a live opponent. She just mis-judged ever so slightly about where her mma skills were up to. She was matched pretty well to test out her progression but it was just a little too much for her to get the win. It will be interesting to see what level her next opponent is and how long it will be before Claressa tries to take on a world class mma fighter. Personally, I don't think she can compete with the top girls in the next year and probably in the next 2 years but with her confidence she will probably move to fast and try. I think she better take about 2 years before she even thinks about fighting someone like Kayla Harrison if she doesn't want to get slammed and beat up.

The problem with boxers is that they are used to getting separated every time a clinch happens, so in a boxing match they often extend forward when punching, causing a clash with the opponent, and that's how Shields kept getting caught up in the clinch in this fight over and over. I was hoping she would win so it was frustrating to watch. If boxers want to have success in MMA, they really need to break this habit; otherwise they are just going to get stuck in clinches constantly.
