To this day, this is one of the most heart breaking anime I’ve ever watched. And so we’ll written. How Tomoya comes to understand his own dad’s grief by basically becoming his dad breaks my heart. For years he didn’t allow himself to grieve. But by opening himself to Ushio and helping her grieve, he too was finally able to. Gorgeous. I haven’t found an anime like it since

This breaks my heart every time! Ushio is such a sweet natured little girl with a big heart

4:30 this moment breaks me every time. He'd spent so much time trying not to think about her and closing off his emotions because it hurt too much and then he finally let go and allowed himself to feel it all.

Clannad After Story was the anime that hit me the hardest in he feels of any anime I ever watched. I really liked the theme and characters.

"Places I can cry are in the bathroom, and in daddy's arms." You have to admire Sanae's machiavellian genius. This was going to break Tomoya completely, all according to keikaku. What I really love about this scene is that in a lesser show this would be the end, Tomoya would be "fixed" but it demonstrates that this is ultimately only his first step in moving forward and dealing with a life without Nagisa.

That's why I love this anime. It's a true coming of age story. Tomoya is a good main character.

I still cannot watch this scene without crying after more than a year. Damn. That wound won't heal

I know it’s coming every time but I’m never ready

I saw this when I was single, and I keep this part with me when my child cries. That he can cry in daddy’s arm. And try my best to not let him forget I love him by telling him every time I see him.

Daamnn! It really breaks my heart to see ushio crying or when she's alone and lonely, I wanna hug her and give all the beautiful things in this world...

5 years & it’s still my favorite anime ever im so grateful I get to be alive and watch it

All these years, I almost completely forgot the story of Clannad but I would never forget that it was incredible, maybe I just chose to forget so I wouldn’t think about the one who suggested it to me

If i ever get to that part of my life where i'm just laying there doing nothing and just waiting for my day on that bed.. I would request to rewatch clannad after story again..

Yes I cried for 3 weeks after watching this heartbreaking anime

I am happy Nagisa and Ushio were brought back to life in the new timeline and that Tomoya got another chance with them!!!

In the visual novel it ends with Ushios death. If you want the happy ending where they live you have to run through it again.

​@@k3salieri oh yeah, and to get that you have to get every other possible ending first. Man, the feels. The canned movie was a bit more realistic in its approach. Both are great gems.

Whoa! I try to watch this scene every few years to see if it still tugs my my strings. I'm now a married man of 31 yrs and this still gets me crying. This scene was done well.

Glad you still feel something from it even if you had moved up in your life and left anime. I would like to recommend this to my kids when they are late teens/young adults.

Mommy wasn't a crybaby at all. She was strong, courageous, and intelligent, I admired her for that. She wasn't one of these sheeps I hold contempt for. Yes, you can cry like a baby in my arms.

I just finished watching the movie Sound of Freedom today. So now this scene hits so much more then before. Children have every right to be free from suffering. Free from harm. And free from experiencing the harsh realities of life. Children must be protected inorder to grow up into a better understanding of the world around them. But the world we live in right now has been actively trying to steal that freedom from such children in ways I don't ever want to comprehend. Innocence such as what we see here in this scene must be cherished not only in portrayals. But most especially in real life. Because such Innocence is not meant to last in a world that is as dark as what we live in now. I pray that the movie Sound of Freedom reaches more audiences. So that this message can get out there. And see the light.

I just wanna say getting the anime ending in the actual VN is literally an ordeal while worth it because honestly the only meh route is Fuko but even that has pretty beautiful end to it while I think besides of course the "canon" ending the best is Kyou or Kappei Hiiragi's it's a huge time sink I no longer have my save file but I was very close to getting it all done.
