Lana was about leave the “father” of her “baby”, although at THAT time Lex still was a GOOD person to HER. This episode explains what her words (I love you both) mean. Her love for Clark was true, her love for Lex was out of gratitude. She started dating with him because she was heartbroken and angry with Clark (we know he broke it off not because he didn’t love her, but wanted to protect, but she didn’t know that).

Damn, happiness was so close at hand....how much relief, joy and hope for the future in Clark's eyes!!

I think if Lionel didn't step in here, things would've gotten worse. Lana was long into her descent into the dark side. She had grown past farm boy Clark and it would've slowed them both down long run.

shihoblade I’m afraid you’re mistaken Lionel knew what lex was doing to her and should’ve left her alone cause now because of his interference he is considered to be an accessory to the crime of physical and mental abuse and 7 more crimes as well just because things are going bad watch your mouth you’ll only make them worse

Loved this scene! Clark speaks so softly around her. This big and tall guy with huge shoulders is so soft spoken and earnest it just makes me melt. I always wondered what would have happened if Lana found some other way to tell Clark about Lionel did sooner? Maybe send Chloe a text? No cuz then Chloe would be in danger. Lex was already having her monitored. This scene was so beautiful!! 🤩 Although Clark and Lana shared many kisses 😘 throughout the seasons this one was by far my favorite. Tender, passionate, and it should have lasted longer and would have if not for Lionel showing up!! Curse him!!! Dammit!

Unfriggin Believable character development. It took me a while to realize the reason Lionel told lana he would kill Clark if she don't marry lex, was for two things: 1, to keep tabs on lex and hope she slips up, but more so to get her away from Clark because he KNEW she was making him Weak and distracted from his purpose.

I was so excited when this happened on tv 5 years ago! Then Lionel had to go and ruin it.

In hindsight the luthor's made the show

After watching all 10 seasons, Lana Lang is a psychology case study. She was psychologically traumatized by the meteor shower, after both her parents died. The guy she was dating in high school, Whitney, dies at war. She had sex with the local rich boy, because her boyfriend was being distant. So she has commitment issues as well. The guy she cheated on her boyfriend with made her believe she was pregnant in order to marry her, so she has extreme trust issues. Oh yeah, she was in a relationship and had sex with her high school's football coach/PE teacher. It seems that Lana's automatic reaction to stress is to engage in sexual intercourse. Oh, and please, for the love of god, don't tell me she never had sex with Jason. They were living together in Paris for several months. Even on a show about aliens with superpowers, it's a stretch to believe Lana and Jason never had sex.

@@Remo1147 But to answer your question about how Lionel was protecting Clark, here it is: Lionel did something very cruel to Lana by forcing her to marry Lex. That is true. However, he did that because he needed someone on the inside, who Lex could trust, who could give Lionel information about Lex tracking the phantom, 33.1, etc. So even though he threatened to kill Clark, he wouldn't have ever done that. It was the only way that Lana would've married Lex. Lionel explains this to Clark in the season finale. "I know, the methods I have to use seem cruel, heartless, but the truth is, I am using it to protect you." Does that make sense?

Lana and Clark are so meant to be together. Lois and Clark was rushed and just not believable.

orlandobabe well, Smallville differs a lot from comics, for example, Clark and Lois meet in Smallville not in Metropolis, Lana’s hair is dark not red, there’s a new character (Chloe), Bizarro loves Lana, not Lois, etc. So why Clana couldn’t be endgame? There are SO MANY cartoons, movies, TV series about Clois as a main couple, and WILL BE in the future. So it wouldn’t be apocalypse if at least in ONE SINGLE Superman adaptation Clark would end up with other girl, not Lois.

Technically because of Lionel's stupidity that marriage is a sham despite the looks you can't lie like that in public and leave out facts Lana would never had to learn the hard way that she was never pregnant after all he knew about it when you know someone is making the right decision then nevertheless you must respect that decision when you know it's the right decision you can't control the will of others even if Lionel didn't mean it that is still a very cruel unacceptable and emotional blackmail to use against her and most importantly by not telling Lana about the information he basically put her in harms way to get what he wants without any consideration of knowing that he sent her in on a suicide mission Lana is a kind compassionate human being who values life honesty even if it takes a while for them to be honest and also has morals that helps her understand the error of her ways to help her realize it's never too late

@@ele_piccola_fatina4319 I only watch certain scenes of this episode and not the whole thing to remind myself that Lana is not married to lex legally because of Lionel’s deceptive criminal actions since he almost got her killed even I watch the part where Clark goes after him when he finds out that Lionel threatened to kill him
