The contents can't be used because it's considered tainted. No proper chain of custody. The shop owner admitted that he'd looked at the content. Any good hack could plant anything they wanted found on it. The Russians already had planted stuff on it.

FBI confiscated it, but it can't be used for evidence because there is no authorized chain of custody. The computer is called tainted evidence.

From my observations as an Aussie, it's not the rules themselves but the interpretation of them. It's _supposed_ too be freedom of opinion and to speak truth to power. Not forcing a fixed opinion and showing lies to get a certain person into power like Fox has. Murdoch is a kingmaker in multiple countries, including but not limited to the UK, Australia and the US.

The fact that you have to ask for a retraction is insane!! The entire load of responsibility should be on those the defamed someone. Defamation, by definition, is spreading knowingly false information. It being known to be false before they spread it makes it fully their responcibility and the entirety of the consequences should fall on them without extra chances
