CJ5 Gas Tank Gets Dropped Again

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My CJ5 is leaking when my tank is full, so we drop the tank again to see what is going on. I also give a few updates on the rig and explain why my tire went flat on my trip. I hope you enjoy! #cj5 #jeeplife #jeep

I think you've already figured out that is the vapor line that runs to the charcoal canister. The end under the firewall had a green hard plastic hose sticking out of it that you'd slip the rubber hose over and feed into the charcoal canister. That vent pipe on the filler side isn't really a vent for the tank, it's a vent for the filler neck so the gas doesn't go "glug glug" and spatter all over the place when you put it in. It seals when you put the cap back on. It looked to me when you pulled the sender out that the gasket wasn't seated, you can see where it was stuck at the 13:27 mark, it looks like it wasn't in right, you can see where it was pressed across the surface instead of along it. I think a new gasket will fix that problem. As for the vented tank...the vents were there for a reason, before I fixed my evap system I had the vents blocked off and my tank got pressurized just sitting in the sun and it caused the carb to squirt fuel after being turned off. I removed the cap, got a hiss from pressure being released, and the squirting stopped. You might not have this problem, but if there's pressure in the tank and if the gasket wasn't seated right, that was the weak link where the pressure went out. You might be able to use a vented gas cap, but keep in mind that the filler area is kind of a collection bucket and you just want to make sure water can't get in there. That would probably be the easiest solution. You could run a vent line to that steel line, then run a hose up the firewall above the carb. I wouldn't do that without a rollover check valve, though, or if it did flip the tank would empty into the engine bay where all the hot parts are... If you do that, you'll want to put a filter or something on it to keep water and dirt out. You might be able to get away without venting, I know I needed it. Either way, you're getting it figured out, so good job! Oh, I'd avoid Permatex on that or you'll never be able to get it out later on. That gasket should do the job on it's own, looks like someone with bad aim installed the last one.

R.C.T. in the HOUSE!!!!! YOU KNOW WHY YOU WEREN'T FEELING THE LOVE? KZread didn't notify me of three of your videos!!!!!! Anyway I can't express how sick orange crush is looking! My word brother you've got to keep the bi directional skins on that thing! It looks like it wants to bite something. Great content as usual. I'm watching this feeling your pain. I carefully drained my fuel tank on my cj5. In the wash bay at work on a Saturday when nobody was there into a bucket with no intention of saving the fuel. Thinking that I had most of the fuel out I had a jack underneath the tank, slowly lowering it it tilted sideways and the rest of the fuel went all over the floor of the wash bay. Finding the oil spilled diapers highlighting fast soaked everything up before the pilot light and the furnace kicked on flung open the door got everything cleaned up and that fuel tank replacement ( I put a new one in) took me two freaking days it turned out to be a nightmare. I nearly lost my religion! had to relocate the filler spout and those two lines that were capped off on yours were capped off on mine as well didn't affect anything. Keep the sickness coming seriously though dude love this channel. The sea is a long, long way away.

Cursed youtube! I was hoping I still had the affection of you sir! That sounds like a very pleasant time. lol It's always more complicated than it should be with these old rigs. lol I need your opinion sir, I am currently in a position where I could trade my 49 2 wheel drive Willys for a pretty good and running 1967 Commando. I'm keeping the WO tailgate, but the rest goes to the guy with the Commando. I'm deeply torn because I love the Willys but it needs a fair bit to get operational and it has bad memories for me because I went to get it with that huzzy I was dating. lol What are your thoughts kind sir? The Willys is a lot more rare but not as drivable as the Commando.

I've got a friend who worked for Ford selling cars in the new and used market. He always tells me " when it comes to cars never buy a 'paint job ' ( meaningful it looks good but sucks mechanically) and never fall in love with a vehicle. And.... everything is for sale." That being said I always try to trade up. The OW makes for good content and the 67 would too. When you go to sell either one, what will afford you the ability to do more of what you love to do. Once you do decide don't look backwards and have seller's remorse. I'm currently struggling with selling my cj5. Being a believer in the Almighty I pray a lot. It sounds backwards to a lot of people but it also helps one to think. And memories made with young ladies good or bad are always for the good in the long run. There was many a lass that broke my heart but I can still smile about them all every now and then.

@@bryanpoole4749 This is good advice, I certainly have rigs that I wouldn't sell. Jubal is one that isn't going anywhere. It would take a lot to get the CJ5 from me now that I have got it where I want it. lol I really do like the old 2 wheel drive Willys, but the Commando is a lot more drivable and I would use it a lot more. I'm torn because the 2 wheel drive Willys are rare and they are even rarer when you have one as rust free as mine is, so I'm in a pickle. I'm going to look at the Commando on Sat. and see if it checks out and gives me the warm and fuzzies. Praying is always good advice, and I certainly need to do more of it.

History request: what can you tell us about tall timber harvests (for sailing vessels being built in New England) in colonial days? I know that ships sailed the coast, bringing lime south and tall pine masts north. But would like to hear some tales of tall timber (or maybe tall tales of timber).

Very good topic, I’ll have to freshen up on it a touch but I am familiar with it a bit. The colony of Georgia supplied a lot of pine pitch tar and timber for ship building. Thank you for the suggestion!

The low points in the frame! Drill a 3/4 inch hole on the bottom of the frame! That way you can rinse and keep the inside of your frame clean! Use a 3/4 step bit. You definitely want to put a check valve back in for rollover purposes.

4 questions: do you still have the FC 150, do you still have the grey Willy's truck that was in a garage, would you do a history lesson on John North Willy's and history lesson on AMC, which I thought was an underated car company, and do you live by Lithia Springs, GA?
