I love how the Aztecs are going to be an aggressive builder/expansion civ instead of just Zulu in Mexico. The Aztecs' cities and infrastructure were the best in the Americas, possibly the world, and it's something that doesn't get a lot of attention.

Perigiun Falcon Tenochtitlan was built in the middle of a lake and either had from 200,000 to 500,000 inhabitants with massive temples and palaces, all without the same technology that the Romans, Germans, and English had at the time. No metal tools, no wheels. The Spanish thought it was more impressive than their own cities such as Seville.

2ranirs They're revered because they were advanced. Compulsory education for all children, advanced architecture, one of the most intricate mythological and astronomic systems, there is a lot to admire about the Aztecs. That and aspects of Aztec culture is still around.

Every time I see one of these I think "Oh wow this civ will be overpowered" But I feel like this game is really balanced so far and I can't wait to see the rest of the Civs. So far China's still my favorite though :D

Nezahualcoyotl was the ruler of Texcoco, not the great Tenochtitlan. I would expect Cuauhtemoc (last Aztec emperor), Ahuizotl (in whose period the Empire reached its maximum size) or Montezuma the first.

NCX No Aztecs also built pyramids with one tempel, the one with two was for a special god which I think was the sun and moon and therefore needed two seperate temple buildings, the other aztec gods only had one tempel per pyramid. I think the real difference is, that Mayan Pyramids had 4 aztec pyramids only one staircase, or for the two templed pyramid one doubled staircase, but only on the front side. Mayans had more staircases, one on each of the four sides.

While I am a fan of the new art style, the leader backgrounds do seem a bit dull compared to Civ V's 3D rendered environments, and nowhere do we see that as clearly as here. While Monty doesn't look terrible, it's kind of underwhelming when compared to seeing him behind the firelit altar, looking at you like he's gonna cut out your heart any second. Ah well, it's a small complaint in what otherwise looks like an awesome game.

The new backgrounds make it way, way easier for modders to make new leaders, backgrounds were actually one of the hardest things to fuck around with and add in Civ 5.

judging by the nose and chin jade ornaments I'm pretty sure he's Moctezuma the first (1440-1469) while the Civ 5 one was Moctezuma the second (1502-1520)

Seems like a great civ. The unique traits all seem to work together really well. You can wage wars without having to worry about happiness as much, luxeries also increase the strength of your units plus you can get more builders

Am I the only one slighty disturbed by the fact that Monty is a preorder bonus? I thought all the people on Reddit saying traditional leader DLCs would exist are baloney, but its getting more likely.

They apparently need immediate money when the game releases so they decided to hide 4 civs until January. I'm guessing the completely new engine costed a fuck ton of money. They did the same with war hammer where they locked one of the 4 factions to pre order only.

Wow, Montezuma looks amazing. Love the feather physics and the muscles on his thin body. Great job!

I absolutely love Civ and playing as the Aztecs. As a history buff who's main interest is actually the Mexica I'm so happy with the research you guys put into the unique advantages however I feel like it actually lacked in the design of Montezuma. It looks like he's wearing leaves instead of plumes on his head dress and the leaves on his back are kind of add as they didn't really wear anything like that, it looks more like the traditional dresses of the Choctaw. It also looks like he's standing in front of Chichen Itza which is Mayan. I felt like the most accurate depiction of him, at least how he may have dressed not so much the psycho maniac, was in Civ IV. Regardless, nothing will stop me from getting this game and expanding the Aztec empire. I hope to see different Mexica leaders in the future games to come like the last tlatoani Cuahtemoc who supposedly cast the first stone at Montezuma when the people realized he no longer represented the people and fought until the very end, or the great poet king of Texcoco, Nezahualcoyotl who actually wanted to put a stop to human sacrifice. Anyways, thanks for all the great games!

GUYS, I am 90% sure that vanilla Civ VI will have 22 civs!!! Why? Because all the detective work at reddit and civfanatics shows 22 leaders, but why? Well, Civ 6 is confirmed to have 18 leaders at launch, BUT Aztecs are possibly on of the 4 civs that will be unlocked later unless you pre-order... just saying ^u^

Remember workers have limited use in 6, they don't last forever. I think it's three tiles and then they're gone.

They specified that workers were much cheaper because of this change. It would be way more broken if you got an army of permanent workers this way. Consider also that warriors aren't going to be relevant for very long in the game.

It looks great, keep these first look videos coming please. I must ask though, is there any chance we will see my two favorite civs, Inca and Zulu, in the base game of Civ 6? It would also be cool to see more ancient mediterranean civs in the game like the Minoans, Phoencians, and Hittites. I know mods can add them in, but it would still be cool to see them being official add-ins. Phoencians were the legendary traders of antiquity...seems odd to not have them in a game where trade is an important part of the game.

These first looks are usually for vanilla, but this one is a pre-order bonus/early DLC. There will be 18 vanilla civs, and 4 pre-order/early DLC civs.

I like this kind of timed exclusivity. It's an incentive to pre-order the game that doesn't exclude those who perhaps can't afford to pre-order. And it isn't not a slap in the face for those who don't pre-order and would otherwise have to pay for the content in future, like how a number of other companies choose to release pre-order content post-release

I'm a little concerned about the "Pre-order for early access to the Aztec Civilization Pack" at the end... 1 of the civs is apparently going to be gated behind a pre-order for the first 90 days. I'm strongly against pre-ordering any game, after seeing how so many developers have gone and misrepresented their game in trailers and previews. How exactly are you going to be adding extra civs that aren't in the base game? Will other civs also be gated behind pre-order? Will they be seperate DLCs or part of expansions?

This game is looking way too awesome.... I can't wait for more civ reveals

All the civs look really unique and interesting so far. For once I'm really liking the Aztec civ.

Are there any lategame/science focused civs this time around? Civ 5 had babylion and korea (korea was my favorite but it was DLC) but both of them were pretty early game.

Not my favorite Civ. Their ability is more compatible with Roman empire, which actually captured enemies and used them as slaves in a large scale.

Didn't they tend to execute by taking out their hearts? I thought that was the point of their ability in civ 5, which was getting culture for each enemy killed, because you were capturing and executing them to the gods.

Slavery was what fueled Roman economy. And beside gladiators, they kept their slave as workforce and not human sacrifice.

Sam M No, the aztecs did human sacrifice. The Romans definitely didn't, at least not a lot.

wtf firaxis, you guys making us wait months for this game to come out, only to make us wait even longer to play as the aztec if we don't preorder the game? You guys and your sly business tatics...hoping people will throw money on a game, that they can't even play yet. Why couldnt it have been a map pack? Why restrict a civ thats always in the base game? You know how frustrating its going to be now, playing the first weak or two of civ? Half the community not going have aztecs, thus separating the online player base already.

I don't mind to support a developer if I know the result is stunning. There should be a different price for people who already bought Civ 1,2,3,4 and 5 as we supported the dev for two decades already. I wait until price gets more affordable and buy it late.

Jjj 2014 After getting burnt from pre-ordering Civ Beyond Earth, I'm paraniod about firaxis's business tactics. The fact they made this civ that is always in the base game, turn into a pre order bonus, worries me that they are trying to rush people to buy the game without even knowing how the gameplay is going to be. Pre order in the digital age is uselss.. It harms the community..it only encourages developers to be lazy, because they already have your money.

I can only agree with you. So many titles are rushed out often unfinished and the hardcore supporters have to suffer. The funny thing is that the hardcore supporters should get MUCH BETTER supported because without them that company wouldn't be THAT great at all.

Companies require money you see to work.And games are becoming more expensive as time goes on.Add to that that the new engine was probably really expensive.

I think this is the first time I've been excited about the Aztecs in a Civ game.

Not surprised to see Monty back again... but I'm so HYPED! I can't wait to take the Aztecs for a spin (along with China/Japan/Egypt/America).. Monty looks awesome in his outfit!

This game look fabulous and I will buy it when it comes out

I've never played a Civ game before but I'm really intrigued by the development of Civ6. Will there be modes or tutorials in Civ6 that teach new players it's gameplay mechanics? If so, please do a preview video on it. Thank you.

yes there are tutorials im pretty sure and i started civ 5 there was one for it although not very detailed it sure as hell got me to play 2 games only in my first week! bare in mind they were on marathon

There is usually a tutorial. There are also optional detailed/long tooltips for literally everything you can hover your cursor over and in-game "advisors" that suggest actions to take and whatnot.

Still 3 months to go... I CAN'T WAIT!

I hope they make one of these preview videos focusing on military and showing off nukes...

Really cool take on this '"classic" Civ.

Looks like a really solid civ. Only issue is I'm not big on regular infantry.

Eagle Warriors could have been a trade off for the swordsman or man-at-arms instead of the warrior given the fact of the era that the Aztecs are particularly known for in real life.

Hyped. Gonna buy the most expensive edition of the game - I think this will be the best civ yet.

I have never felt as OP in Civ VI than playing as the Aztecs. It's unreal.

I wonder if the eagle warriors keep those abilities as you upgrade the units

I can't wait :D

Um I need to know is this one of the 18 basic civs or is this a pack pack that I would have to buy or get the deluxe edition to be able to play as the Aztecs?

Is that pyramid at the back of Moctezuma Chichen Itza? Because that was maya, and the Great Pyramid of Tenochtitlan was a double pyramid in honour of Huitzilopotchli and Tlaloc...

Probably the former, because thats really the only way to keep it fair for people who don't have all the stuff.

I hope the art team adds something more to the leader screen background than what they currently have. I would like to see the vast scapes of each respective kingdoms. It is the only chance we get to see what unique aspect about them they have!

Didn't I hear it mentioned once before that workers built districts instantly? I could have sworn I heard a dev in an interview say you didn't have to wait for tile improvements anymore.

18 Civs if you stick to one revealed every 8 days. I am excited to see what promised new civ takes the place of Monty now he is the first dlc. Glad I pre-ordered and hope I get this as the order was in before this was mentioned.

This Monezuma reminds me more of Pacal... Pacal was the name of the Mayan leader right? I always get Pacal and Pachahuti (however you spell it) mixed up...

Do you need deluxe edition for this civ or just to preorder it.

You should add Mannerheim as a civ for Finland. He'd be defensive as he was in the winter war and there's also a Mannerheim mod for civ 5 which is popular.
