Sariel was so bad ass for such a simplistic 8-bit background. Imagine if she came back in the modern era. I half wonder if ZUN keeps PC-98 chars out because they are so OP compared to the more regimented and controlled spell card based characters.

Actually,ZUN never make characters from touhou1-5 back because he cannot find a story which inloves them,only yuka kazami back to the modern era cause she is inloved in the story(touhou 9)

+Follet the dragon girl (human dragon) Also, he doesn't own the rights to most of them. They belong to the team he worked with, amusement makers. He was allowed to keep Reimu, Marisa and Alice, and later Yuuka.

+Sevatar I heard somewhere that the rights deal was a false rumor and that ZUN said he still owned the rights to them, it's just that there's no place to put them. Yuuka worked because of her deal with flowers and such. Yumemi..well I don't know where she would have gone. Sariel is practically old news. Mima might fit somewhere since she was practically Reimu's rival. Shinki is also old news. The other characters (except Yumemi's side-chick) aren't really significant ^^;

Kelyx614 Thats the version of the story I believe as well. Most PC-98 chars just aren't worth it or fitting for modern Touhou :(

KelyxTheMage hello hi this comment is two years late if yumemi and chiruyi were to come back, pc-98 fans would probably be disappointed that their favourite "servant and master" duo wasn't brought back. Lots of fans are upset that Elly hasn't returned so if for example Shinki returned without Yumeko any of Yumeko's fans would lose it. Characters like Chiruyi and Yumeko did have some significance in their games, much like how Sakuya, Youmu, Reisen, Sanae, etc all had some significance. Only difference is that Yumeko hasn't came back lol

Hearing this just makes me hope that Sariel returns. Even stronger than I already do.

Sariel is my favorite Touhou character, the Seraph of Death. I wish ZUN can make remakes on the previous games. .... or someone can do a spin-off. That be nice! ^^

Sariel is way too OP for the present touhou there are so many things that make her a great character and it could be even better if zun searched everything about her he could make a great background history (or even a great incident) lets hope that this can happen

She's probably weaker than Shinki (because Sariel is from Makai and Shinki is the goddess of Makai), and Shinki gets beaten by Marisa and Yuuka who also appear in the Windows era, and they are not even the strongest characters (by the way, there were no spellcard rules back then) Also ZUN stated Hecatia was the strongest character to date. Sariel may be OP? So as Remilia, Yuyuko, Eiki, Kanako, Miko. But that Six-winged angel would be definitely awesome in a new game

@@blazi2293 Actually It's surprising but Sariel's power is WAYYYY higher than Eiki. And it's considered one of the most powerful in gensokyo. Plus Sariel is also stronger than Shinki I'm pretty sure. Shinki is only considered a god in her world. If she left Makai her power could be affected greatly. Sariel is one of my favourite characters and also very BADASS!

Ahh... PC_98 the good times even when i died over 4000 times. i also love the newer ones as much as i love PC_98. i still die alot :)

Sariel's an angel, as far as we know, it's still alive. For any remakes or sequels with it in the game, may I recommend changing the name to "We Will Die Together When We Die"?

and technically the OLDEST touhou character. Angels have been around since the beginning of existence, and as a result, are even older than Amaterasu and Izanagi. as all angels were created at the same time*, she is very much the most ancient character and may have even witnessed the creation of the Hakurei Barrier *some debate on this as to whether same time means exact moment or a few moments apart as Michael and Lucifer have often been described as twins despite being born at the same time as other angels, but minor details.

Well PC-98 themes is just as great as today's

I'm gonna be bummed if Sariel isn't in the upcoming Touhou fighter with this theme song.

@wyvernofnight I say, no. Touhou 13 couldn't live up to the hype a lot of people gave it, but it was a fairly solid game. They added a lot of great new characters to Gensokyo. I do not need them in Touhou 13, that was exaggerating. It was just wishful thinking =3

well to be fair, now that Taoism and buddhism have entered Gensokyo en masse, the next logical step would be to eventually have other pantheons enter. Hecatia is of the Olympian pantheon, a more western one, and as such could be a way for other western ones to make an appearance, including the Judeo-Christian pantheon. perhaps not adding in the top members (God, Jesus, etc.) due to the nature of Touhou's cast being all* girls and possible religious controversies (possible being highly unlikely as SMT gets away with having God appear in almost every game to date, with the only controversy being the Hindus of all people because of SMT4A and Krishna), but the angels are more than capable of appearing, particularly lesser known ones or folktale based angels, though that would deny Michael, Raphael, and Uriel from appearing, Leliel, Shoftiel, and a whole lot of 'el's could fit. now Hinduism "could" be the next one to enter, but due to the aforementioned SMT4A scenario, might be on the lesser priority since the Hindu leaders threw shit-fits over Smite, Overwatch, and SMT, and ZUN might not want to get caught up in that. as a result, western pantheons could become more prominent, as even some of the lesser yokai are from the west such as Kagerou and Sekibanki (or at the very least quite similar). *exceptions being Rinnosuke, relegated to the manga and other such media, Genji the turtle from the PC-98 era, and Unzan who gets by due to basically being Ichirin's stand and never leaving her side.

Quick PSA: PC-98 characters aren't coming back. Rare exceptions have been made, but they are not and will not be the norm. Give up on the idea of that ever being the case and just appreciate the new characters.

Maybe more people would listen to you about this if you weren't so negative about it. Not that the windows characters aren't great (most of them are), but to say that others should give up their want of their fan favorites returning is kind of selfish. Just the fact that Zun has brought back pc 98 characters is enough to make some people hopeful. I get that the pc 98 fandom can be annoying, but haters of pc 98 can be just as bad. I hope you don't take this like I'm trying to attack you, because I'm not. Also, even as a fan of the windows era characters, I think that the latest characters from lolk aren't that interesting or great.

Strawberry Yumemi I don't hate the PC-98 era or it's fandom, it's just that given how things have gone the chances of ever seeing more PC-98 characters returning are very, very slim. All people do by hoping for PC-98 characters to return in new games is set themselves up for disappointment, so they'd honestly be better off just accepting it now that it will probably never happen.

All four characters from PC-98 who migrated to Windows had very drastic changes from their original designs and characteristics. Now, let's see, would people who constantly beg for Mima's return, do you think they would be happy to see her completely different? I'm pretty sure they would complain about it.

Yuuka wasn't that different. Yes, her pants turned into a dress and her hair was cut, but all and all she was very recognizable as Yuuka.

As someone who is still hoping Mima will return, I don't think I would have minded some changes. I had no problem with neither Alice nor Yuuka as both was still very recognisable. That said, can we please have Mima back, ZUN? T_T
