One could say "What intro?" for Conquests.

The music is excellent in my opinion, and matching it with the sound effects (like the arrows) is great!

Undoubtedly the greatest Civilization introduction of them all. The transitions between each time period are so seamless...

I like to pretend that something like this happens in my game whenever two units battle each other.

My favorite Civ intro. I almost never skipped this intro just because of how amazing the animation and music is.

My favorite of all the Civilizations' openings.

also I want to point out that every scene shows multiple aspects: the industrial scene shows smelters or steel production at first which was the first step in the industrial revolution, then mass production, and last it shows us what came last through a combustion engine being lifted up.

I love how the officer in the Civil War part yells "charge!" and only a couple of guys do it. Even he stays behind the wall, so it seems like he was playing them.

I feel like playing Civilization III now. Good thing I have the complete edition.

I dont think they forgot about the renaisance or the revolutions, I think they are showing both, in how humans advanced to use guns during the rennaisance and a revolution is basically a glorified civil war.

@xXStupidHurtsXx Actually, I'd argue that World War one influenced warfare more than World war 2. First widespread use of machineguns, first widespread use of aircraft, first widespread use of tanks, etc.

@Modolie I am portuguese and even I can see that's the American Civil War. Definitely not Europe and much less any other place of the world during the 19th century. The uniforms, the guns and the "Charge!!!" with american accent gives it away.

One has to remeber that the culmination of both rennaisance and enlightenment was the revolutions and civil wars

@KoreaEatCat I could have swore that I posted somewhere that those tactical battles should be OPTIONAL. Think about a very critical/decisive battle in the game that involves losing your capitol if you lose. You wouldn't want to micromanage that one battle?

@TWCGroup No. The gameplay of Civilization isn' based solely on warfare as the Total War series. Fans always suggest to cram as many features from other titles they like into their favourite game turning it into a bloated mess lacking a focus, while they don't realize it'd be potentially destructive.

I was so disappointed when I installed Conquests after Play the World, and I lost this intro movie... THIS one is amazing.

There is such an immense charm to these old PC games that I think modern games have lost. More than that, I wanna know how to recapture it. What was so fun and appealing about these old earl 2000s games? How do you get this effect?

@xXStupidHurtsXx Thats not what this intro is about, it is about ages in civilization, not compared to the real world but ones you create in your game, therefore it is not the civil war in america shown but something compared

@ekszentrik It should be an option wether you would like to proceed with tactical combat or simply resolve the battle automatically as it already is. Nothing wrong with that option.

@Empeinmortal I freely admit that it would. Only for hardcore total war/civ nerds. Of course you could always have the option to just auto resolve any fights like CIV does by default.

@TWCGroup that would be too complex and turns would take way too long. Turns take too long in Total Wars already if you play all tactical battles in the endgame.

The perfect game would be civilization V with a Total War combat engine when you go into tactical combat.

In case someone stumbles upon this question and no one's around to answer: Sadly, you can only get one golden age per game. There is a chance you'll enter a golden age by completing a Wonder that matches your Civ's characteristics (Religious, Scientific, etc) or if your special unit kills a non-barbarian enemy.

@TWCGroup Ok well I am not a hard core fan so I don't deserve to give my opinion. I only have Civ 3 so from my standpoint Civ V is heaven. It looks pretty I played the demo and it is nice and simple. I am definitely getting it eventually. I would suggest it but there are so many great games coming out you should think over what you like best. From me 5/5. :) (Based off of what I have watched on KZread and played in the demo)

@Timmehbob No you just said that it had a higher american death while WWII had the highest of deaths of anyway and no change in the american goverment but several changes in goverment for other countries civil war only effected america (more or less) so wwii was obviously more revolutionary

I always thought the battle was the English Civil War, or something like it around that time (I don't think it can be Napoleonic because of the lack of coloured uniforms), but then again it could be anything.

D.Fekt well it fits in better in the timeline, plus for much of my youth I didn't know about the American civil war when I was young, considering I'm not american and so I only learnt that later. That was my view on it. It could be any old archetypal war from the age of muskets.

Actually, not really. Right before the Civil War was the Industrial Revolution. If not for the Industrial Revolution, we would not have watermills, windmills, factories, or even interchangeable parts (interchangeable parts is the idea that things are made of parts that can be easily replaced). World War II, on the other hand, did not 'revolutionize' anything.
