Civil Service Fast Stream Advice (+interview with a diplomat)

after i worked for the civil service last summer, i started getting so many questions about the civil service, the fast stream and the assessment centre. so i wanted to make a video giving my advice on the topic. i also interviewed my friend Sam, a diplomat at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). he provides some great insights into the fast stream application process, his journey into government and what it's like to be a civil servant. i hope this video helps and if you have any questions please comment them below! see you in my next video...

Fascinating. Trying to go from PhD candidate in medieval history to diplomatic fast stream. Thanks for your work-the gov website is much more obscure. Thumbs up for your curiosity and your help.

I'm in the midst of my early stages of applying for the civil service FS, and your video popped up at the top of my search. Your account of your experience was so useful, thank you for making this video. I also love that you got Sam Nicholls on! I've interviewed Angus Elsby, co-founder of Tipstart. Brilliant individual with lots of interesting tips on working in governance and development.

Thanks for this! Just wondering whether there is any perceptions we should be aware of as applicants over 30? I hope to apply in the next couple years. Glad I found your channel!

I would like to apply to the diplomatic service. I have a history degree (2:1) and I am thinking of doing a Master's in International Relations or Diplomacy to boost my chances. But I have also been offered a job with Deloitte. What would better help my chances? Work or study?
