One fire fighter went down on the ice and broke his leg and three firefighters were immediately taken out of service to transport that fire fighter to the hospital leaving 21 firefighters on scene. 4. Hydrant problems and a water main break nearby. 5. Every air bottle that they were using froze up and they could not get them out of the quick releases to put another bottle in. 6. Heavy fire was traveling through the cockloft as firefighters were attempting to make their way through a chopped up building. 7. Four firefighters were removing a victim from the front of the building. 8. This city operates with very low staffing and the city council and mayor refuse to give them staffing. 9. The nearest mutual aid is over minutes away, but were handling a call in their city at the same time as this. 10. The radios kept freezing up and they could not make transmissions. 11. Fire blew through the roof of the building as soon as the vent crew cut the hole. 12. The neighboring building was a do not enter building as it did not have a safe floor in it. 13. Roof collapse happened within 18 minutes of arrival. 14. All of the hand lines on scene began to freeze up Solid, and they could not get water to certain parts of the scene. 15. Later, found out the pump operator that fell was the pump operator of truck one. 16. The city of Troy, New York, operates with a two-man truck company as they are all cross staffed. When one goes down the domino effect starts.

Eventually the fire burned itself out as it ran out of fuel 😂

Wow that looks like some miserable god-aweful conditions to fight fire! Makes me glad to be a firefighter in the mid-southern part of the country! We just had a round of winter weather for a 36 hour period in the 10s to 20s and even that was miserable outdoors for any length of time. I can't imagine how it would be with hoselines and pumps instantly freezing if shut down for any time at all! TFD rocked on this fire! Be safe!

I will not criticise this job due the fact that it has been heavily edited. I do know that I would not want to be called out to a job like this in these conditions, we don't get weather like this here in London (UK). However from what I can see they tried there best to knock down the fire with an interior attack. Unless we were there we do not know what the layout of the building and how much furniture and other obstructions was inside. So from me respect to you guys because it wouldn't have easy having to get very cold and wet to knock down this fire.

There's a lot of old row homes like this in Troy, NY... Some that even predate the Civil War, and when fire gets a foothold in one structure, this can often happen... The bitter cold makes things even worse...

I feel for the frozen firefighters and if that stack of boxes froze, how did they get it back to the firehouse? The close proximity of the buildings and the horrid working conditions were ideal for a catastrophic fire…nice stop!

I hate seeing multi story houses burn because that water goes down to the first floor from the second and water damage will be everywhere and there's so many folks that can't afford property insurance.

Terrible job on the fire attack. They just let the house go.

Very slow getting water on the fire

I'm watching from Australia, I know that every man and his dog have guns in America. During that footage were those bullets going off during the start of the firefight? Btw over here we don't go and cut holes in the roof as our houses are not wood based, mostly brick with zincaloom roof or tiles made of terracotta or similar materials. If a fire gets a foothold often it will self ventilate. I really feel for the firefighters having to put up with those disgusting conditions

I was trying to figure out what you were talking about bullets in the beginning of the footage, and I think I finally found out what it was. That was actually a firefighter(s) inside the house with a water line shooting water from the inside going out. That's how the blast and debris flying all over the place occurred.

Zincalume is a cheap inferior version of colourbond. It fades very quickly.

One question? Anyone there hear of the words mutual aide? Like lots of it?

Why do they stand around so close to the building? There was no saving the building. With everyone out go defensive.

Guess what? There is more than one "city of Troy" in the U.S. But, if I had to guess I'd say it's on the East coast from the amount of water being applied.

Construction methods vary depending on the expense the builder is allowed to spend by the owner. Lightweight construction is also a way of lessening costs.

Very sad pretty houses

Multiple time stamps where there are 6+ firefighters standing there and ZERO water is being put on the fire. If it isnt or can’t be offensive, then put water on the fire from the street. So much excess fire burned through the upper exterior level that could have been lessened by a single hoseline directed towards the soffit area. Not to be an armchair expert, but water makes fire go away.

Maybe you should go show them how it's done. Maybe they had water issues do to freezing subzero temperatures. Maybe the hydrants where frozen. You probably wouldn't Last 5 minutes.

They had frozen hydrants, couldn't establish a water supply.

Fireplaying in the good old USA! They vented the crap out of the roof to feed fresh air to the suffocating gasses and let the whole thing ignite. Instead of extinguishing the mess they made from the exterior, they go inside to do it with a terrible Angle of Attack. No wonder someone got hurt. But hey, you get to call them a hero. Any other country on this planet would have just vented the fire room windows, gone inside, found what was burning and put water on it. If it's in the cockloft, open the ceiling and fog the space.

JB91710 Again you show your level of incompetence. There is nothing to show what caused the firefighters injuries were related to the fire conditions at the scene the injuries may very well be related to the cold temps and nothing to do with the structure fire at all. Further there would be difficulties with water flow creating dangerous ice conditions as water freezes on the ground and paved surfaces at the fire scene. Add to these issues the wind speed making this a wind driven fire during very cold temperatures. Very difficult to fight fire in these conditions. You really need to reassess you comments taking in the bigger picture like you are so fond of saying and recognize you are simply being a troll.

Your lack of experience and knowledge are astounding! In actuality, they did what you suggest after they were forced outside for the exterior attack. But, again, your lack of knowledge is pretty vast. If you knew what you were talking about, I’d engage but, since you obviously don’t even grasp the basics of fighting a fire in a wood frame structure, what’s the point. And why do you feel the need to malign the “hero’s” who are American firefighters? Envy??? 😢 You make me sad. Oh and PS, what was burning was the cockloft. Venting the windows and attacking from the outside does nothing until the fire has burned the top of the structure off. Learn it Moe!
