O'Brien said COT is the greatest engine he has trained. He said he's never found COTs physical threshold, that it has never been reached. I don't know if Coolmore need to create hype. Perhaps I'm wrong or naive, but I don't see any reason why Coolmore would hype something that isn't the genuine article.

Watch City Of Troy as he goes to the line in the Dewhurst - he was bigger that the others. Look at City Of Troy in the 2000 Guineas - he was smaller than the other horses.

Coolmoore always over hype their horses. It's a business to them that's all.

APO'Brien will win the Derby with Los Angeles not City of Troy. The race has fallen apart with Appleby's Hidden Law sadly being fatally injured and his other leading contender being withdrawn. Economics is not entered. I believe the race will be decided between Ambiente Friendly and Los Angeles. I really can't see COT bouncing back from the major disappointment of his 2000 gns run. I don't believe there were any valid excuses other than he's not trained on as anticipated.

What a lovely clip to stumble upon. Aidan is the best trainer alive, but this year his cavalry is woefully unprepared. City of Troy is not the only disappointment. Justify is an excellent buy for the Galileo heavy Coolmore broodmare band. Up there with Frankel and Dubawi in Grade 1 winners last year. (Not forgetting the perplexing Into Mischief)

If COT gets agitated at Epsom it's game over. Any horse at any level that does not settle burns ip too much energy and fades. Many a horse that was placed in a Guineas came to Epsom and won. No way I could back COT at any price . Vincent O Brien put cotton wool in Golden Fleece s ears because of Epsom noise. Will Tipperary be renamed County Coolmore before long.

Hey i just came across your video, when I searched for a derby preview, with regards to city of Troy, i was woefully disappointed in the guineas run, i must have watched his 2yo runs back 10000 times since Christmas, i can't fathom how he is 2/1 for the derby, yes its an extremely weak race but i couldn't touch him even at 20s, i still really like Henry Longfellow as a miler the France run wasn't that bad, Ryan eased up on him it was a very messy race, ill be on him in the st James palace! Its mad how many Camelot colts are in the derby this year, would be nice to see one win, he was a fantastic horse robbed of the triple crown by a horse on drugs, and a shocking ride by Joseph.

Horse should not be mentioned in the same breath as Frankel trip will beat him as for genius I think any other “Genius”would have great success with that backing and ammunition

I watched him walk around the ring at Newmarket, and he was flat, no spark or showing interest in his surroundings. I think there was something troubling the horse physically that day. Whilst I couldn't back him in the Derby, I certainly wouldn't be writing him off as a flop just yet.

Good video and hopefully City of Troy realizes his full potential. I backed Nijinsky every time he ran, I’d like to think there will be another horse as good but I doubt it in my lifetime anyway but maybe I’m just being sentimental, Piggott and Nijinsky were the dream team .

Ask yourself this. Whose performance was more impressive: that of City of Troy or Economics. You do the maths.

Maybe to me is that COT is one of these horses that needs to be 100 per cent fit. They prob left a bit to work on after guineas. Some horses been a smallest bit unfit can be huge. I suspect this will be COT last turf race. lets be honest about this Epsom Derby is a restricted 3 y old race so much easier to win. Prob if ran after Epsom would be on Dirt in America to make him a dual purpose stallion like Giants Causeway was. By the way you mentioned 2 top draw horses in Golden fleece a great video of him in all his races on youtube called Golden Fleece champion racehorse. also El gran Senor best guineas winner ive seen.

Something is ailing the horse.

It's not the "Epsom" Derby. It is The Derby!

I know there's hype every year, and I long ago reached the point where I take everything Aidan SAYS with a grain of salt. However, this horse really did impress me last year. He was going away at the finish in all of his races and Ryan Moore genuinely was having trouble pulling him up. If they were aware that he hadn't trained on, hadn't improved physically and was not going to be a champion this year, why run him in the Guineas at all ? Why not just invent an injury or illness and retire him unbeaten and wax lyrical about his unfulfilled potential ?

​​@@josephmaher4270 I didn't express myself very well. There is a view out there that the horse hasn't trained on and that Aidan is talking him up to try to boost his stallion career. My point is that if the run in the Guineas was a true reflection of the ability he was showing at home, why run him at all ? Why not just make up an unjury excuse and reitre him unbeaten ? I think Aidan genuinely believes in this horse and therefore there is at least a chance that he will bounce back at Epsom.

Reading btwn the lines i dont think o brien was happy with the way moore rode the horse at newmarket he went like a scalded cat from the gates. I dont think he will win the derby but he will win lots of races later in the year

@@MichaelWilliams-696 On what grounds will C.o.T "bolt up" especially over 1m4 on soft (as the going is likely to be on Saturday). Maybe he can't stay further than 7f. He is not proven beyond that distance yet. Who knows he might be better off in the Commonwealth cup. 3/1 is a ridiculous price on what he has achieved THIS year. If the Derby was won on a points basis on what horses achieved as two year olds the history of the thoroughbred would be unrecognisable but its not. Maybe something is ailing him - he does seem to have regressed. Wake up - the bookies are squeezing the punters for lack of any PERCEIVED competition (because they haven't a clue how to read the trials or the form on offer - as is the problem with many punters who are latching on to the past performances of a champion TWO year old. It's the most open Derby in years. Watch the overround on Derby day it will be extortionate. The bookies will be the winner come 4.35pm on Saturday.

excuses for me dont exist in racing we call them excuses or say he's making them but excuses are the cause of something in your control... and we all know horses work on their own time especially highly strung colts. So most things are out of your control aidan sent COT to the stall fresh after that who knows remember there have been times where stewards all surround his horse put hands on make him worked up and sweat and end up ramming him into stall you have to pay attention to these things... listen to AOB in interview after race or on racing post recently.... "he got hot at the stalls which is not like him at all".

Successful breeder's are not stupid and certainly not naive. They judge stallion's racecourse achievements by the results. No amount of hype can fool them. Let the horses do the talking. Stop claiming that all your 2 year olds are the second coming or risk diminishing future claim's of star status and of course you're credibility. For a star to be shine there has to be dark matter. If Coolmore does their job right i.e. breed or buy the right horses train them to the best ability and keep them sound success will follow accordingly. Relax Aidan, we believe in you. Stop pandering to the press and the 'money men'. And as for Tabor's comments about being the next Frankel that's alright for star struck newbies to the breeding game but not for Coolmore. A week is a long time in politics - perhaps its time for M.V. to step in front of the cameras and be the spokesman - dumb things down a bit. I agree. Vincent to close people thought Golden Fleece was at least the equal of Nijinsky and superior to sir ivor over 12f. He never hyped up to media. Remember breeding is different now. You can quite easily value horses. Example Blackbeard goes to stud as 2yold. Despite been well behind his own stablemate in ratings went to stud for a fee more than some of their recent DERBY winners. Blackbeard was beaten twice also. So its all speed nowadays. Coolmore even selling some Derby winners. This weekend Serpentine 2020 Derby winner runs in Australia as a GELDING despite been beautifully bred also. Epsom Derby is just more a historic race nowadays. Long gone are the days of instant Stallion making races. In fact its nowadays turns breeders off. Breeders prefer top 6-10f form. With City Of Troy they will Advertise Champion 2 y old first.

Unfortunately for punters both have shortened in the market as your selection C.O.T. has drifted. Had you taken the prices on the day you could and laid City of Troy at the ridiculously short price of 7/4 you could now make a profit on both horses buying and selling the prices on Betfair without the outcome of the race being a factor. That's how to win at racing just trade the odds to mugs.

I don't think City Of Troy will become the successor to Galileo as the next top stallion, as City Of Troy's Dam is also by Galileo. You can only take inbreeding so far.

aidan o brien is the most successful trainer of all time.he doesnt always get right,he is dealing with animals not machines and horse have off days like humans.a lot of what is said here isnt based on any facts.pure speculation,based on no evidence.horse dissapoint every day.just look at form figures.maybe the horse is the next frankel,he has to prove it,either way he wont be the first or last great two yr old to dissapoint at 3.there is no big deal as anyone who really understand s the game is aware that it is all ups and downs and far from a science.some times there are no answers.
