Glyndebourne is an English country house, the site of an opera house that, since 1934, has been the venue for the annual Glyndebourne Festival Opera. The house, located near Lewes in East Sussex, England, is thought to be about six hundred years old.
Glyndebourne are showing Charlie Chaplin’s masterpiece film ‘City Lights’ with a live orchestra.
In the organ room you will hear from Gus Christie who’s grandfather built Glyndebourne and in the auditorium I speak to conductor Jamie Phillips about the challenges of performing a live score in front of a live audience.

I have seen City Lights live in concert played by the Cleveland Orchestra. I believe it was in 2012. It was such a beautiful experience. Tears of joy filled my eyes the entire time. Been a Chaplin fan since I was 10 years old believe it or not!

Beautiful venue! Wish I could attend. I have been a huge Chaplin fan for 5 decades. I've read many books and seen many documentaries, but I commend you for your off the beaten path ideas for your show. Very inventive. These last two especially.

As a dedicated Chaplin fan all my life I’ve still yet to experience one of his lovely films with a live orchestra! This looks like a divine venue and the orchestra top notch!! Completely envious!
