    "The entire police department" all two of them. I love how all of the media outlets leave that part out. My guess is that the chief and their friends (all two of them) were doing kess than outstanding work and betraying an oath. But shame on the media for leaving out the fact the agency only had two officers and was likely a part time agency where services were covered by other agencies anyway after hours.

    Suspending them or firing them all is a radical enough move they should have told the media why... Just saying an investigation is not enough information for the public they're serving... Just saying "well because of reasons we're not comfortable disclosing right now" makes me think there is a problem with the entire town's government structure, not necessarily just the police department..

  • @shenmisheshou7002

    @shenmisheshou7002

    Clearly the town was broke and could not afford the insurance. Typically, a small incorporated area that needs police coverage will make a contract with the local Sheriff to provide call and (if requested) patrol service. This is not cheap because the Sheriff will want to recover 100% of his expenses, and this could be between $120K and $200K (in a poor rural county) but it is usually cheaper than having your own police department. The Sheriff has the benefit of scale and can do things for less money than a small town can. Many small towns are losing (and I would not be surprised if that is what happened here). A small town can pay $25K a year for this insurance, but that insurance typically has a $100K deductible and a $1M cap. It is the small lawsuits that hurt the most because the city pays the deductible (I mean they always pay the deductible, but three small lawsuits of less than $100K might mean more money out of pocket than a $1M lawsuit, where the town only pays $100K.
