It is really slow for a 200 bhp car

Its not entirely a 200hp car. It’s 200hp figure comes from the combination of the electric motor and the Diesel engine, being 163hp for the diesel and 37hp for the motor. The top speed is really that of a 163hp car plus the weight of the motor and batteries. It’s only a 200hp car up until the motor is disconnected at I think 80 or 90mph (roughly 140km/h).

I have no idea where are you from, but in Portugal, the 200Hp 2L HDI is offered in both manual and automatic gearbox. I service those things.

why?

I don’t really know why these kind of tests are done on these cars. I guess it’s interesting to see if it can hit it’s advertised figures but regarding it as a negative aspect is kinda irrelevant given what the car and its power plant is optimised for. It even disconnects the electric motor from the wheels at high speed to eliminate resistance and prevent damage to the motor, so you’re left with a 163hp car carrying the weight of the batteries and motor. In all honesty, I’m not sure who in their right mind would consider a car like this if horse power, top speed and acceleration performance are the priority in the choice. These hybrids are built for one thing: fuel economy and limiting emissions... that’s it. Acceleration and top speed are nothing more than by-products and no doubt completely overlooked in the design phase of these machines. If I wanted a high performance car, immediately I’d be thinking Audi TT, Ford Mustang, Nissan GTR, BMW M3, VW Golf GTI, just to name a few. Hell, if I still wanted a hybrid, there’s the BMW i8, but none of these practical hybrids would ever cross my mind. The problem is looking at aspects like this is giving hybrids completely unnecessary negative reviews. Cars like this don’t claim to offer anything more than comfort and fuel savings and expecting more is just unfair both to the technology and the people wanting reviews based on what the cars are optimised for.

don't forget guys that it's an automated manual gearbox, so it's still got a clutch but it's got an automatic mode.. to bad that it's a heavy car because i can totally agree that it's got 200hp but it's still a heavy car, and the fact that i think around 120-130km/h an hour it's only the diesel engine doing the work !

exactly! from approx 120-130km/h electric motor is not working so when power is most needed there is only 163HP from 200HP available... this is why top speed of Hybrid4 is so low and why acceleration is so poor on higher speeds.

i'm from italy, and here the hybrid one doesn't come out with both manual and automatic.. just the last one. In the end, if you've driven the manual one, yes, it has to be much much more faster than automatic.. which is heavier too

auto topnl- did you use it in auto mode or did you use the manual paddle shifters to obtain 0-100 of 8.5 secs?

This car has more torque than any naturally aspirated 3.5l V6.

Jeez, my old 1994 Vauxhall Cavalier V6 (Ascona in Europe) would cover 60 mph in 7.2 sec. But the main question, in my mind is, is the DS5 good for overtaking when you need it, so the mid range is key. And of course, the MPG.

Because "power" doesn't really indicate it's a fast car. Torque does. And the downsizing of the engines has created a lot of HP but hardly torque. And that's what you want if you want to go quickly from 0-60.

Auto topnl- I guess if you use the paddle shifters to shift gears manually, the 0-100 times should be much faster

There is something wrong here, I've driven the 200HP manual version and it is wayyyy faster than this, also you can check my 2007 2L HDI C4 (stock) video and see how fast it is compared to this.

This is slow as fuck and i'll tell you why: This particular version has 200 hp.. in a better way it has 163 hp from diesel engine and 27 from the electric one. The electric engine weights more than 200 kg, so in terms of power to weight ratio, the normal diesel engine wins vs. this one. But the worst thing is, and probably no one knows: OVER 130KM/H THE ELECTRIC ENGINE TURNS OFF!!! so you have to carry 250 kg more without any power support from the electric engine =) SO THIS IS THE PROBLEM !

There is only 163 bhp after 130 kph..... "200 BHP" is only marketing, and only under 130 kph...

auto mode. The paddle shifters on the DS5 are the worst ones ever made. They really should be ashamed for selling them

Mine is a 3.0 24v only 200hp , I already had a BMW X5 4.0D in my rear view mirror so if you want to beat me you will have to go to France to try, if you're engine doesn't brake down during the trip

Guillaume Devismes And way, way faster. Not just a bit or even a lot but miles off. It's 302bhp and 440lb of torque with a massive power spread. It's claimed 0-62 is 6.6s but most tests show it going a fair bit quicker than that - some into the 5's. It's also got enough traction to do close to that on pretty much any road it wants. If it was behind you it was because the driver wanted it to be behind you.

No diesel can go 7000 rpm or 130 km/h in second gear or 200 km/h in 3rd

Sorry, but I DO know what I drive, and I was referring to the 2L HDi Hybrid.

You've driven the 1.6 thp 200hp which is petrol.. not diesel.. and yet.. the petrol version is way lighter than this one.. almost 300kg less!!!

If this car has 200 bhp than it is a POS!!! Try the Audi A6 2.0 tdi with 170 or the new model with 177 bhp witch are much heavier, and you see the difference!!!

+Guillaume Devismes i got a diesel as well and mine is 3.0 turbodiesel. with 550nm of torque at 1500 rpm with only 240 hp. bring your gasoline shit around bro.
