Citroen 2CV Van: How To Upgrade With Authentic Original Parts | Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars

Ойын-сауық

Drew and Paul buy a classic Citroen 2CV van with plans to upgrade its power and look, but keeping it as authentic as possible. This involves using original parts to increase the horsepower of the 425 cc engine, as well as using a period typeface on the side of the van.

They are a terrific vehicle. Not everything needs 1000 hp. Sometimes it is just nice to putt alone a country road taking in the experience.

The original inscription at the back of the car « Manche » is for the French département (number 50) it originates from. You can spot this on the original French registration plate seen in the archive picture.

No French tradesman would ever have Monsieur Plessis on his van - or on his headed paper come to that. It would always be surname first then christian name and no Monsieur. Indeed, even today, that is the more popular style.

You are absolutely right. The letter guy is incredibly talented but the "Monsieur" ruins it all. Instead you should mentioned his son(s). Plessis et fils. Nobody calls himself Monsieur in France.

You'd also rather put " menuiserie" instead of " menuisier" to refer to the business rather than your job description. Like " Menuiserie Plessis" and then underneath "Coutanche" so that people can find you (if you don't want to put a phone number).

@@ankhi3585 Yep. Correct. No Monsieur and no Job description. Well, I guess that they have to redo the whole lettering job. Right now the 2CV looks like it was decorated for a Netflix serie, packed with french clichés....

@@ankhi3585 Yes, this is the most realistic. Indeed most French adresses had no phone number before the 80s (So having one showed your business was flourishing).

I've got one... It was completely rusted and the chassis had been fixed many many times... I just bought an old Dyane 6, cut the rear end of the chassis (as it is a bit longer than the van) and put the AZU body on it, but keeping the Dyane suspension, engine and transmission so it now handles better, is way faster and more powerful with the 602 and the twin barrel carb plus it has front disc brakes with the LHM system... It might not be original but, let's face it... Those are not a Hispano Suiza... This old 2cv's are meant to be driven, used and have fun with them, so for that purpose it is perfect and enjoyable.

That is what's known as a platitude. A meaningless statement of the absolutley obvious that imparts nothing, but is repeated so frequently as to become the nonsensical delusion that it imparts some kind of mystical, sage wisdom, when in fact, the exact opposite is true. 'it is, what it is'.

Ruined it with the signwriting. With a little research, it could have been done correctly. If I were going to do it, I would have sourced his telephone number and or address and made it complete. However, at that time and still to an extent today, he would have relied upon word of mouth and wouldn't have wasted money on having the van sign written.
