Cities Skylines, but the sea level is constantly rising!
Ойындар
We're taking on classic Cities Skylines (City Skyline) challenges whilst we wait for Cities Skylines 2 (CS1). This time we're trying to build a city whilst flood water is constantly pouring in, raising the sea level!

"You cannot engineer the sea" Dutchies: "Hold our Heineken"

We dutchies litterally won entire regions from the sea. So, RCE is not entirely correct. With constant increasing levels though... i dont think we would be so lucky.

Can you please try this challenge again sometime? I was actually really invested in this lol

When the undertown flooded, you stopped making money from it, but you were still paying upkeep, which is why you lost in the end

He also could’ve moved svo many expensive buildings up to the “it” like the waste management center and the train stations
The fact that matt was racing the tide but played the whole thing on fast forward made me laugh and infurated me at the same time. Man likes a challenge I guess

I don't think the map was made with the pausing limitation in mind. I would like to see more of this please. -Strategic water pump placement? Flood disaster response trucks? Dams? Quays?

It definitely doesn't help that he had fast forward on for a long time and showing us stuff too 😂
"if people live longer they pay tax longer" -sentence of the year
Some one should make this concept into a whole game! But maybe in reverse, so that the water goes away periodically and increasingly serviere. And maybe put in some sort of water dwelling rodent in it, just for the loughs. Jeez I would watch the hell out of that, if Matt would play such a game.

A game where the water is constantly rising would be interesting though. The game could take place on like an infinitely tall mountain and you have to keep trying to advance your city while at the same time constantly moving it upwards. And possibly there could be new challenges the further up you go like with oxygen and stuff. Could take place on an alien planet so you can be more free with what is realistic.

That's a cool idea, honestly! Also I'd like to see some water drainage/irigation management, with canals and reservoirs. There would be some potential for environmental storytelling about the positive impact on nature and revitilising wastelands. Matt, please make a Timberborn roleplay in Cities: Skylines, like playing a game as if it was another game.

There's a few maps like this in From Dust.
That moment when he asked, "who built this map?" It looks like a very strong cliff.
9:30 Architect move detected. The water won't hit the canal until it over tops the sea wall... Probably better to canal *then* sea wall, give the water some place to go first then the sea wall becomes taller by extension.
You could totally do this challenge. Once the lower city was flooded, you needed to destroy all the roads and services that were causing you to hemorrhage money. Sure your city has shrunk, but you'd have a lot of time to grow it back on the high land. Just live within your means!
We need a part 2 NOW This is amazing
Imagine your block being 80 houses long. Sucks if you need to get to the other side. 😂
NOW THIS IS CONTENT
POV: You're a Dutch city planner.
Play more of the island game like this! Can’t wait to watch
Water in Cities Skylines acts really weird when you change game speeds. The first burst was probably from shifting between slow and fast game speeds.
"Let's raise these a couple of percent, noone will notice, right?" How ridiculous, our real world rulers would never do such a devious thing!
"What's up with electricity, oh- We have no electricity." -Motorway Matt, 2023
That "Ahhhh" at 2:49 got me good. Maybe add an extra portion to the editors' two meals a week?
Ahhh the good ‘ol Netherlands simulator! Funny enough in ye oldie times the dutchies would actually build on hills and flood the lower areas to keep away any attacking forces. Anyway absolutely enjoyed the video, these type of challenges are always a blast to watch!
I have always loved the challenge of defending against water in this game. Defending against Tsunami's is also fun.
I really like your content. Keeps me smiling. Especially Timberborners.
"We gave windmills a chance" is Matt foreshadowing what German politicians will say I the future?
If you put water pumps in the canal and then turn them off they will continue to suck water so you can try and put many to stop the water from rising.
There was another map with the same concept a few years ago. It had some actual terrain for you to work with, which I think would be far more interesting. It also didn't have a flooding problem like here.
i think the reason you lost is A: the upkeep, and B: you had it on 3x speed for the final parts
Interesting. What you really need is a long, skinny map with a series of steps. Start at the bottom and over time the map just fills up so each step is then flooded. See if you can build faster than the rising water.
If you build an airport on the high land, people can get in and out and you may keep running the city forever!
Matt had a whole ass dystopian time line going. Moral lesson and all (you need a working class to survive).
Anyone else feels anxiety about when he has all those issues he still keeps the speed on times 3?
I wake up and I’m excited to watch your videos you start my day off so good your different to the other city skyline KZreadrs you the best man keep it up! 😊
Never fails to make an amazing video, keep rocking!
"I should probably just stop talking and start building." The most realistic engineering statement I have heard today.
If people can smell their disappearing garbage it is still bothering everyone. I wonder what would come out if you actually built a perfect city, according to all building codes and such. Would be awesome to see your design.
Thanks for another cities skylines vid These my favorite

I always pause while I’m building. I don’t want something to happen while I’m not paying attention. And especially in this challenge, time is of the essence so you don’t want to waste your time by doing stuff while it’s unpaused.
Love the fact you quoted Gillian Mckeith in this episode "oh no the poo. The poo is not good."
U need to build up! -Every Capitalist ever 😂
Id really love to watch Matt to build it to 90k population, normal map, no mods. Imagine the sick spaghetti he would build to solve the traffic issues?
Cities Skylines: *cannot build on water* Me: builds on dry land then moves it using the Move It mod 😂
Challenges like this are so fun. More please!
This is a great video. Also Matt, anarchy allows to build networks on water
Your city skylines content is my favourite!
I love how he said i won't pause, then paused 4 minutes later, got me dying 😂
Matt is here yet again, with another certified banger of a video
Maybe adding water pumps to the canals would have helped
5:24 "Good thing i didn't buy any tiles that way and kept going that direction." Me focusing on the flow of water at the top left of the screen.
The atmosphere, the darnger and the incompetence made this a bager. Feel like a movie should be built with this idea
He was on fast forward the whole time wondering why things were going wrong so fast
This is very interesting to watch being someone from south Louisiana. Might be useful…
Loved this video!
Your map for the challenge is the outline of the state of oregon!
So happy he uploaded :)
LETS GO ANOTHER CITIES SKYLINES BANGER RCE FTW
Please do this challenge again! I really liked it lol
Id happily watch you try and take this on again
This is the best chalenge you have done!
Nice one Matt!
Once you started building up it would have been a good idea to protect your services by moving them to the new area or just turning them all off so you dont have to pay the upkeep.
The Netherlands if they never had landscaping tools:
Matt, a former Engineer: It's just a small bit of water, I'll build a canal and floodwall later Meanwhile in Bikini Bottom...
onto the outer border wall and use aiports from as soon as possible was the strategy I was thinking of
Would actually enjoy this challenge again, perhaps a different map, and additional challenges within
I would love to see you try again this map with the knowledge you now have!
You could put a tons of water pumps on the canal !!!😂
Hey Matt, the highest u can have the tax is on 12% without them complaining about it👍🏻
You were so close! Please do a follow up episode where you rightfully make it!
“this house is currently getting burglarized… so let’s just replace their house with a police department” This man might be British but he has the mind of a Detroit City Planner (yes I actually live there not just for the meme)
These beavers have evolved
These chalenges are so entertaining!
as soon as you built up on the upper level's edge and looked down i thought 'wow, this reminds me of Pittsburgh' xD
Haha, very funny. To look at this while people in my country are dying from flooding after the Kakhovka dam tragedy. Perfect timing.
I'd really love to see Matt do this challenge again.
I literally got the notification for this video while reading an article about the flooding in Ukraine just now.

that was a weird episode of Timberborn

I enjoyed this one 😂.
damm! you just never run out of ideas!
As an American I can confirm that RCE has successfully detailed our country in his city
Do another one with allowing you to use terrain tools, but locked at 3 speed, eh?
Yoo this is amazing

Looks like this map was built out of the Matt playbook 5:10 or is it just a coincidence?! LOL no balls though
5:08 Anyone else seeing what I’m seeing? When he mentions there’s a leak 💀
finally a cities skylines video
with "move it" this challenge is very easy - just make a crater out of roads, who needs landscaping lol
Atlantis in the making!!!
Love it
You probably should've invested more in the top city if you knew that the bottom one was going to flood anyway...
Can't wait for you to try this idea in Cities: Skylines 2 in October :D
2:45 - I live for these kind of moments
Nice video Matt .!.
