Citation 500 Series / Excel - Visual Approach Tips
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
This video shows a straight in visual approach to South Lake Tahoe, California (KTVL) as well as a traffic pattern at Hayden, Colorado (KHDN). Tips are given for flying visual approaches in jets, specifically the 500 series Citations as well as Citation Excels. Both demonstrations come from the cockpit of Citation Excels.

Congrats on the 501SP! I'm glad you find these useful. The Citations are both a common and excellent first jet.
Many thanks for this video and your channel !!! It is the best resource to study some tips for young pilots who fly small Citations.

@@raccoonair Thanks, hopefully I'll be able to get them published more frequently as the industry settles into a more sustainable pace. I do all my editing at the hotel. For the past year I've spent far more time in the cockpit than chilling by the pool. Hopefully things will get easier soon.

@@citationpro I reached an age that I prefer the cockpit over the pool, but I heart you. I use general the same measurements as you, depending on the situation. In a circuit I prefer the gear down during downwind, considering the transition time, so with that out of the way I can focus more on base and final (traffic). Flaps Approach I select when I switch over from NAV to APPR-mode (both have the word Approach) and Flaps Land I take 1 mile further (3 NM), since tower controllers tend to rush us; although I like the 1,200' to become stabilized at 1,000' concept. Good for you to bring these measurements in focus, so we can learn from the experience from each other.

@@raccoonair Good points! Some of my technique is company-specific. Our SOP calls for approaches to be fully configured and on speed by 1000 AGL. The Citations are "draggy" enough I know it can safely be flown faster, closer in, but I need to set a good textbook example per the SOP. I picked the configuration points the way I did because they are so similar to our instrument approach profiles. I work with a lot of new/low time jet pilots who pick up the instrument profiles quickly because they are so consistent, but struggle with visual approaches since there are more variables.
