Cyril looked so much in control in the first 2 rounds. The fight just slipped away from his reach in round 4. On the bright side, he did not take a ton of damage and didn't make that trip to the shadow realm that most people who fight Francis make. He can bounce back.

Still, I have to admit that Gane is an incredibly gifted fighter, but more importantly, he truly has the mind, spirit and attitude of a champion; this post-fight conference shows it very well. It reinforces this character that is his! No complaints, no excuses, no bitterness at the loss and full recognition of his opponent's effort!!!!! I don't think the issue was poor wrestling on Gane's part (though going for that leg lock in the 5th was uncharacteristically bad fight IQ), Francis is just bigger and much, much stronger. At a certain point, strength and size cancel out skill in wrestling/grappling. I mean, Gane was still mostly able to get back up and never took damage on the ground. Was actually attempting submissions. That doesn't take away from Francis though, he absolutely had some slick, skillful takedowns.

Why ? In one takedown agaisnt stipe ngannou was able to do more damage to him than he did in 4 takedowns and several mins of control to Gane. In the striking departement stipe got absolutely totaly outsruck. I don't see anything he did better than Gane one year ago and on year ago ngannou was probably even less good than he is now
