Thank you very much for your fantastic explanation in this video. I am not a nursing student but my dad is in hospital right now with end stage liver failure from cirrhosis. He went through and still going through everything you explained. I have much better understanding after watching this video. I wish I knew all this earlier for better care management for my dad.

He passed after about a week after admission. It was heart breaking to see his struggle and it helps knowing he’s free of pain now 😔

@@sharonng4423 sorry to hear that. My dad died as well. I’m here because I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver a few years ago. I’m only 32. I feel really foggy in the brain. I caught hepatitis c from getting a tattoo.

My mother died of liver cirrhosis from alcohol and had vomiting for months itchy rash loss of appetite pain in the liver she didn’t go jaundice till the day she died she did not tell anyone she was sick and vomiting until the day before she died before she was not jaundice she had a history at the hospital and she had been a few times while drinking but she was sober when she died no confusion no jaundice until the day she died and distended stomach only on day she died

Very helpful I will take my exam tomorrow but only found his video today, I wish I’ve known this, & today found out I understand more with visuals 😅

How to know if a cirrhosis patient is still taking alcohol? Is there anything to look for in the blood report or anything else? Please help

Yes they can.look up at specific blood tests and if any patient with cirrhosis drinks alcohol, the person will die in a very short time unfortunatetly.

10:39- I'm not sure who has the right info on this. Simple Nursing says NO NG tube fore esophageal varices, but nurse achieve says it is an appropriate procedure. When I google it sounds like it used to be considered a contraindication, now it is considered appropriate but maybe proceed with caution. Hopefully with the two conflicting statements this is just something they don't test on the NCLEX because it sounds like what gets recommended could depend on the doctor.

My brother has cirrhosis, due to alcohol. At the hospital, they took him to drain fluid from his abdomen, as he is distended (pregnant looking), but there was no fluid. If there's no fluid, why is his abdomen so distended, and hard? He was so jaundiced he was almost orange. Plus, they gave him Heparin. Why would he receive that, if he's at risk of bleeding?

As a person with cirrhosis I'm glad i stumbled on your channel. Recently i was sleeping all the time and got a bit foggy. I later found the lactulose i bought a month ago was way out of date. Could be coincidence but 6 days of a fresh bottle and cramps and that explosion you mention and feel good. Then watch your video and remind me of the important bits. And ha, for now, i should retain it. Anyhow know yr site, thanks.

@@mbahatortianderson7797 $11-au for 500ml. It was cheaper here(australia) on scrip, but they cancelled it.Start on approx 20-25ml daily then if ok, 15ml a day.

I would say that this video is great BUT CAREFUL in protein restriction in patients with HE since most cirrhotic patients are already malnourished. :) vegetable source of proteins over animal sources 😃

I just found out a little over a month ago i found out I have cirrhosis. They gave me lactulose, within a few minutes i was in the worst pain i ever had it took two shots of demarel and two oxycodone 10mg and then it finally eased. Also I haven't drank in over 30 some years.,

What do you define as too much drinking/alcohol abuse?

Spiro is the milder one if not much fluid. Also its more potassium sparing, furesemide is harsher and depletes potassium. If i get a large buildup of fluid ,legs mainly i then take both. Ask yr doc.. Luck.

My husband passed away they said it was cirrhosis, but I didn’t believe them, now after watching this video, I see he had all those symptoms, the hospital never helped him get rid of the excess water in his gut, the doctor said he had to pee it out, which he never did he passed 6 days after admission. At least now I understand, and realise it was cirrhosis.

He now in hospital for sepsis from liver ,he almost did not come to hospital,if he hadn't he died from sepsis shock . He will never do transplanted
