This is a good honest video. When I bought mine it was very frustrating trying to deal with tension. Some people plunge right in and crank out a million socks but I had problems! I'm just getting back to it and paying more attention to yarn ball or cone preparation, good light, and good record keeping . So fun!

We are Very fortunate to have been shown how socks, surgery gauzes were. All in aid for helping in the war. I never knew all this happens behind the scenes of world war 1. The sock makers/gauze makers were as heroic as the soldiers in the trenches. Thank you for your vid.

Wow I have never seen this. I’m so honored ❤️ Thank you for sharing. I love the sound it makes. I do own looms, round and flat knitting machines. I do have to learn these new skills but I am very happy and excited to dive in. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge ❤️

Excellent tutorial!.. I saw one of these old knitting machines at a garage sale, long ago for $20.00. Unfortunately I didn't buy it.😢... I wish I would have!

Nice video, I have a green auto-knitter sock knitter that was made in Harmony, Maine in 1988 ,purchased off EBay and bought one new, made in New Zealand in 2004; which gave the option of purchasing different cylinders and rubbers. Nice to have options. This makes a nice hobby. Thanks.

Australia too. The government, I’m told, gave out machines to women to use them to knit socks for the troops.

I've become fascinated by these machines and I've been 3D printing them and coming up with my own improvements. I have two questions: 1. Why is the little plate on the yarn feeder shaped like that, with the sort of wings out to the side? Do those wings serve a purpose? 2. What is the purpose of the sort of the shiny steel bar with the two 90 degree bends to the counter-clockwise side of the "The Auto Knitter" logo?

Thank you very much for this helpful video. I'm new to knitting machines. Can you (or anyone) tell me whether on this or a typical sock knitting machine it's possible to double the yarn to knit a reinforced heel and toe? Also, do socks knitted on a machine have a gusset after the heel? (When I've finished handknitting a heel my whole circumference of the sock is increased, and I then reduce back to the original circumference of the ankle. I don't know whether this is true for all sock patterns and true also on machines? If not, then I'd fear excess wear - so presumably the answer is yes, but I wanted to check.) Many thanks!

Erlbacher in the USA makes new machines. I think there are some other makers of new machines as well. They are expensive. It is also possible to make a machine using a 3D printer.
