    Am a beginner to sewing , I needed to make 3 "gathered frills", but your tutorial was so helpful and precise in explaining the difference. My particular problem is attaching the "gathered frill" to the material. The gathers stretch and then bunch at the end - looking so untidy and uneven. Can't seem to get that right. Don't know if anyone else has this problem Flounces are so much neater and especially your method of attaching them. Thank you - you are a lifesaver.

    For scootching and bunching of fullness...it is all in PINNING and being willing to sew over the pins. I've done it for over 50 years. Use fine, nice glasshead pins like Clover 2501. Sew BETWEEN the rows of gathering stitches when attaching. BOSS that fabric around!

    I love flounce on tops. I had a few blouses that had ruffles, however, I like the looks of this flounce better. It's not as bulky as a gathered ruffle. The blouse that has the flounce all around it is something that I'd like to try.

    but plz tell me how to.calculate the length of a ruffle required for a dress nd how to draw the circle according to dress length

  • @londasews

    @londasews

    7 жыл бұрын

    Length of a ruffle - do you mean the depth? That would be the length from the base of where the flounce is attached to where you want it to end. In my video, the first measurement is for the base of the flounce - whether that be, say at a waist, or wherever the flounce is attached. Sorry I just found this, and that your question has me a bit confused.

  • @londasews

    @londasews

    Simply change the width or depth (how long) the flounce is. I've often done this. I usually 'wing it' as I cut. Go for it - lots of fun!

    is flounce and ruffle are same?

  • @londasews

    @londasews

    3 жыл бұрын

    No, they are not the same. A Flounce has no gathering where it joins to the garment as it is truly a split 'donut' whose inner circumference is attached to the garment where a Ruffle is GATHERED along one edge where it is attached to the garment.

    For a long flounce, like around a skirt, can u make many small flounces and sew them together?

  • @londasews

    @londasews

    2 жыл бұрын

    You could - but I would NOT sew them together - that won't work. The main thing there is to make the radius of the circle you create as long as you want your skirt to be. You could have a multi-layers of ruffle skirt looking kind of like my tops in my Flirty Flounces Pattern www.londas-sewing.com/product-page/flirty-flounces-sewing-pattern-booklet-pdf-delivery by stitching the upper part of each flounce to a base. Check that out.

    How would you make an asymmetrical flounce on the sleeve hem. Where one side is longer that the other.

  • @londasews

    @londasews

    7 жыл бұрын

    Just cut the flounce as deep as you want it - where you want it. It doesn't need to be the same depth all around. I like to cut it the longest I might like, then trim shorter as desired.

  • @londasews

    Thank you for 5he calculation but I want to draft my neckline flounce on my wrap dress and have the collar end taper to nothing, so it doesn’t cause bulk at the from of the dress. How would you do this?

  • @londasews

    @londasews

    3 жыл бұрын

    You would just have to cut the depth, the radius, of the circle to what you desire - nothing in this cased - at that location. Cut it full, put it on, then cut from the exterior edge to look as you desire. This assumes it is a cut edge on a knit fabric that doesn't ravel.

    Changing the width of the 'circle' is also certainly do-able. I've done that often. Experiment and have fun. The inner arc will remain the same, it's just the width from that inner arc to the outer edge that you would change.
