I've been thinking about a security feature for a long while now that captures the MAC addresses of the devices being carried by (candy) burglars and other vagrants. This way you could identify the suspects and being them to justice... Via egging.

Surely kids would end up stealing the fancy tech-filled screaming basket over a bag of candy..?

For those who don't want to pay for an sms service you can send texts via gmail or other email service. For example if you use Verizon Wireless you can email your phone by sending the message to your-phone-number@vtext.com It might not work for everything, but for something like this you can just create a free email account for your device, have it log in and send you an email straight to your phone which you will receive as a text message. Just search for "email to sms" to get a list of domains for the different wireless carriers.
