The tip for using the binder clip a a temporary wrist pin retainer is genius. Your shop-made tang install tool that twists the ring in place is also a great idea.

Thank you for this video and for showing the tanged clip position picture with the slanted edge. Life saver. You’d think the company would include instructions…keep up the great work!

5:34 the piston I run have a relief on one side but have the removal notch on it...on the other side the ring slides directly onto the piston skirt! In a complete teardown and rebuild the most dreaded thing is getting the second clip on while the piston is on the connecting rod! Also installing those clips by hand usually gets a piece of your skin in the groove as well! I' m definitely making some of these clip tools you showed here!

Thanks for this video, this is the most informative one I've found so far. I tried for over an hour to install the first circlip last night, and had to just stop before I rage smashed something on my workbench, or damaged my piston. Every other video I've found just basically says "oh you just pop it in" and show little to no effort. Your example is much more like what I'm up against installing clips in a new piston for my KLR650.

I was struggling to get a c clip retainer back in place near the end of a rod that supports my mower deck when i watched your video. I have a tool designed for that --but it was 67 miles away. Luckily the rod end by the clip groove was beveled and i had a box end wrench a smidgen bigger than the rod and about the same size as the clip. Pressed it on first try.

Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video. Been struggling with the "W" company's really stiff wire circlips for years, and made your straight aluminum tool. Took a while to get the dimensions right, but when I did, it worked like a charm. Can you provide any guidance as to the proper dimensions for the business end of that tool (shown at 4:36)?

Pro tip, I tape a beer bottle cap to my lower thumb to push it on. On my Porsche you have to install the pistons onto the rods while the liner is hovering above them with the rings in the liners. It's a real bitch!

I like to use a little aluminum sheet metal to put where the scratch happened to prevent the scratch it also helps slide it in

+doobyboy21 Sorry for the late reply, but these can be found in our application guide. We have two different sizes of those tools that we sell, one for .927" and another for .990". These part numbers are W-927 and W-990. Again, sorry for the late reply, let us know if we can be of any more help.

Okay, so I watched this video and learned a few things. However I would like to know where I can get one of the aluminum circlip installation tools. I am not interested in the plastic or nylon version. The aluminum tools seem to work quite well at least in the video. Thank you. Rick H.

I removed Cv Axle and saw that the Circlip on the CV Drive Shaft is kind of loose. You can rotate it easily inside of its grove easily. I plan to replace it. The original clip is made fm/white metal, looks like Stainless Steel. On Amazon I didn't see any Stainless Steel circlips and bought cirlips fm/Carbon Spring Steel. Is it better to put that Carbon Steel circlip instead of loose Stainless Steel one? How tight should be that ring in the grove? Thank you for the great film.
