'Circle of Life' in 360º | THE LION KING on Broadway

Ойын-сауық

It’s the “Circle of Life” in 360°and it moves us all! Use your phone or “click and drag” to experience every angle, from backstage to the top of Pride Rock.
For viewing on desktop, watch in the latest Chrome browser and use your mouse to click and drag to navigate your view.
For viewing on mobile or tablet, open the latest KZread then move your device to navigate your view.
The video is produced for The Lion King by Total Cinema 360.
Unlike most virtual reality captures of landscapes, sporting events or concerts, The Lion King’s allows viewers to experience “Circle of Life” from the actors’ point of view and see activity otherwise invisible to an audience. The camera allows viewers - in a seamless 360° sweep - to experience the number from within it, completely surrounded by the 31 cast members onstage, Julie Taymor’s eye-popping puppets and masks, the audience seated in the Minskoff Theatre auditorium, set pieces flying in from above and actors emerging from two floors below the stage as Pride Rock rises up to present Mufasa, Rafiki and baby Simba. The virtual reality technology enables viewers to choose where to look at every point, inviting repeat viewings of the video to take in every possible vantage point.
“In our 19th year, The Lion King continues to be embraced to an unprecedented degree around the world, and we are humbled,” said Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer Disney Theatrical Productions. “But with that success comes the responsibility to consistently find new ways of sharing Julie Taymor’s bold artistry. What better way to do that than this cutting edge virtual reality technology that puts you right in the middle of one of the most unforgettable production numbers ever staged? For the first time ever, you become part of the ‘Circle of Life.’”

THE LION KING continues ascendant as one of the most popular stage musicals in the world, with a worldwide gross exceeds that of any film, Broadway show or other entertainment title in box office history. Winner of six 1998 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The LION KING has also earned more than 70 major arts awards in America and worldwide. The show’s director, costume designer and mask co-designer Julie Taymor continues to play an integral part in the show’s ongoing success, and holds the honor of the first woman to win a Tony Award for Direction of a Musical.

I think this particular number has the most use for it, out of famous Broadway scenes (for all of the reasons that make it so famous), but I would be so happy if they did Les Miz ones.

Better - if they did a whole show blocked for this. They need to do those "live for TV" musicals like this instead! Hey, Disney, beat them to it!

+CJ Smith Seriously, yes. This may well be the next thing that sets apart the competition on broadway (I'd like it to just be the the shows and the music, but if we allow ourselves to be reserved, technology will make fools of us all).

As an ex professional dancer who is now paralysed from the waist down, this was certainly emotional. The first time I saw this show was in my performing arts college years when we took a trip. To be able to experience being back on a stage after 9 years in a wheelchair is something magical! Being able to look into the wings, look out to the audiences faces, feel the energy on the stage. Thank you so much! I hope this is done with more shows.

Anyone else getting emotional because they used to perform? I saw this musical when it was first touring, and it was a truly magical experience, but at 1:08 in particular, when the camera is upstage and you can face the audience... Those days are long gone, but they were the best days of my life.

Honestly in my opinion their should be a oculus rift game that brings you into the Pride Lands and you can interact with the characters like these examples Run through the Pride Lands with Simba Chase hyenas with Kion Optional: babysit Simba and Nala as Cubs Seriously it's a good idea who else likes my opinion

I came back from from NY almost a week ago and out of all the shows I saw, The Lion King was the show that pretty much stayed with me. I wish I stayed at the stage door to greet the cast. I regret not staying. It was beautiful. And this 360 version of Circle of Life makes me want to go back even more so. I really love it. 😭❤️

RileyClover • actually, there are only about 25-30 people in the ensemble. Each one plays something different at different points in the show. For example, the actors who play the mother elephant in the beginning later come on stage as Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. Many of the grass dancers later come on as lionesses and then wildebeests, and still later many of them come on stage playing the various jungle trees and plants.

Don't feel bad! For a show with this much prestige, any one of the members of the ensemble have probably played lead roles in many other productions, and certainly have near to the same skill as the leads in this show. Everyone in a production like this is insanely talented!

I saw this live on April 4th 2018, my family and grandmother took us to New York City at the Minskoff Theatre and I clearly remember sitting in my seat with my two younger brothers and grandmother (my parents didn’t want to see it because they said “we’ve already seen it”) and the exact moment I heard the singing, I instantly knew I was about to whiteness an outstanding performance, and I was 100% right. My brothers and I were casted in the exact same performance but a junior version that would be performed in mid April 2018 in Meriden Connecticut which was where I formally lived for most of my life. This performance left me speechless when it ended, I was beyond amazed. And even better than that, my grandmother paid some insane amount of money to take us backstage!!! Yes, I stood on the exact same stage as the actors I saw that day. Our tour guide was the actor of Zazu, I held some of the props, I got to meet the actor of Simba, and I got to use the hyena masks (we had permission to hold the props) my youngest brother held the Baby Simba prop that is shown in this video, it is actually larger than it looks in this video at least compared to him. It reached from his the top of his head to the upper part of his chest. I saw the parts of the elephant graveyard, the giraffe costumes (and they are just as tall as they look in this video) I have a photo of me, my brothers, my grandmother, and the actor of Zazu himself! (I can’t remember his name unfortunately) Being able to see this performance and going backstage on that same exact day, is something I believe not a lot of people can say. Wednesday April 4th 2018 will be a date that will have a place in my memory until my last breath. What an incredible experience!

I just saw this on stage this past weekend, and I was not expecting to cry like I did. Now I still cry when listening to the soundtrack, and especially watching this, seeing it all up close versus my cheap balcony seat. The Lion King on stage is by far the best production I've ever seen, and is the best example of what the magic of the theatre can be.

Wish I could hear, see and feel it again it was the first theater performance I have seen before, and good thing I LOVED IT made me believe that the people singing and dancing were really animals though I guess it does that when your up high I was on the balcony so I didn't get a good look at the outfits it's okay though cause everything they did was AMAZING!!!!
