I have been a long time GM Dealership Parts Employee. This is one car I feel GM could have put more effort into refining the style and concentrating on the V-6 GT Model. This car was an excellent concept, and after driving a 1987 GT, this car was not only fast, but very agile for what it was intended. When the announcement was made to discontinue this vehicle, I was fairly disappointed. For those of you who owned the 4 Cylinder Version of this Roadster and found them to be lacking in all departments, I agree. All of this said, yes these cars were wrought with problems and design issues mainly around the plumbing of the cooling system front to rear. But GM's decision was they did not want another internal competing design against Corvette. So the Fiero project was dropped. GM claims sales as an issue, but this car fit a very unique niche in their line-up. For those of us who wanted a mid-sized road missile, something that tracked and handled well, with enough Go-Go, this car fit the bill. The Camaro's and Firebirds during this period were nothing to write home about, and Corvette was out of touch for most of us. I have always felt, that had GM put a little more into this project, they would have had a true winner. I was hoping that before they dropped this there would have been a 3.8L Supercharged powerplant living in that rear engine bay... Wishful thinking...

It's not worth putting money into any Fiero. This car was dead on arrival in 1986!

It arrived in 84’ and there is definitely a point of fixing them, I did mine from quite literally nothing to one of the fastest cars I’ve driven for about 2000 dollars and a tune

Actually the way new cars are getting so complex and computerized and designed to be disposable it does make sense to put your money into any car that will be repairable in the long run, even at that age and older they will still outlast the life expectancy of new cars. You will be throwing away an insane amount of money on newer cars in your lifetime if that's what you buy, just wait. The way they were in 1986 has nothing to do with what people can make of them today. It wasn't until 88 when they finally got the suspension they were supposed to have all along, and they never received the type of engine they were supposed to get either, so everything you know about them from history is the totally compromised let down the bean counters created not what the designers actually intended.
