Cinema 4D Field Force Control Tutorial

In this Cinema 4D tutorial, we'll use the new Field Force in R21, and we'll control it with Fields and masks. The Field Force connects with Thinking Particles, which will travel along the surface of the objects. We'll use Redshift as the render engine and look at the new Automatic Sampling option.

    This is a great tutorial! Thank you. I'm having a slight issue with my Tracer - I'm running a linear field from one side to the other, but my tracer is still tracing static particles before my linear field has even passed through. Then once my field has passed I get the motion as expected. So my scene starts off with a bunch of dots waiting to grow basically. Is there any reason as to why this is happening?

    Hi. My pleasure. I don't use Arnold myself I'm afraid. I typically use Redshift or Cycles4D. But I think Arnold can render curves the same way Redshift can. You most likely have to add an Arnold tag to the spline and check "curve" or something similar.

    Hi Maverick, Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the Hair material is finicky with the Tracer directly. One solution is to export the Tracer as an Alembic file. That process is really baking it down into keyframed data. With the Alembic, the Hair material behaves in a much more predictable way. I did that process in the other Field Force tutorial that I made: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fax12Ztyh7vgp6w.html I hope that helps. If not, let me know. Cheers Jesper

    Great tutorial thanks. One question though - some of the particles seem to get stuck at the edges of the field. I think it's when they slightly leave the field force and there's no vectors outside it to define a velocity for the particle. I'm new to fields so am having trouble working out a solution to this. Do you have any ideas.

  • @Velocitypeak

    @Velocitypeak

    3 жыл бұрын

    I'd say your conclusion is quite accurate. You can't 100% art-direct the particles. If you need a lot more control over the particles in C4D you really have to look into X-Particles. ( It's part of "Fused" these days. )

  • @jangerman

    @jangerman

    Hi. Great tutorial. I have a slight issue when I try to animate the base object. I'm trying to have the base object float and rotate in space while the emitted objects move around on its surface. The emitted objects start to react to (I guess) the centrifugal forces and fling off from the base object. Is there a way to suppress that, so the emitted objects stick to the base object when it is moving ?

  • @Velocitypeak

    @Velocitypeak

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi Andrew. From the top of my head: It's tricky to have them interact with a moving object. Possible solution: Could you group the base object and the imported alembic under a null, and animate the null?

  • @andrewcooper1352

    Hi Gabriel. I'm guessing you're rendering with hair, rather than Redshift. If that guess is correct, export the Tracer as an Alembic file. Right-click directly on the Tracer, and in the context menu, you'll have the option to export as an Alembic File. I'd recommend exporting as an Alembic even if you render with Redshift when you render out a whole animation. Let me know if that helps or not. Jesper
