And I‘m pretty sure that not many other teenagers have written an opera at age ten, and conducted it themselves a few years later. I‘m an opera nerd and know quite many works, but I can’t think of anyone else but Mozart and Alma who has accomplished this

@@mathildewesendonck7225 It's definitely true. Alma really did become the youngest person since Mozart to conduct the premiere of her own opera. What a club to be in, eh ? I know Alma doesn't like being compared to Mozart, but the fact is she is a genius and we are lucky to have her in the world right now.

Danke, geliebte Alma Deutscher

My teeths hurt from clutching them in a grin for two hours straight. This already feels like a real classic for the generations to come. Besides all obvious praise to Alma, what an extraordinary stage production. The cast, all those little quirks, just brilliant. My family will see Alma in Vienna in September and we are all already so excited. All the best to everyone involved in this.

What an outstanding, extraordinary, genius Alma is! She's taken a familiar story and put an unusual spin on it. To compose an opera in four acts displays a mastery of large forms. Her conducting is precise and she passionately draws out interpretive expression from the orchestra. The orchestra has been well-rehearsed and plays wonderfully. Particularly interesting is a virtuoso-level trumpet obbligato that happens a few times. The singing is very fine. It seems that all of the singers have magnificent voices. Musically, there is a lot of musical humor with references to other operas. This young composer is a genius of historical proportions.

Just watched both parts of Alma's opera Cinderella. Thanks so much for uploading it to You Tube so that more of us can enjoy it. An outstanding work, I am running out of superlatives to describe it. An opera which Alma wrote as a pre-teen and I imagine she has since revised it a little too. At times we hear Mozartian melodies, at other times the orchestrations remind me of Tchaikovsky, at other times there is even a Wagnerian quality to the music. But Alma is not imitating the great composers, she is bringing her own unique gift for composing melodies as well as some great inventiveness too. The arias are superb, memorable melodies that will not grow tired with time. The orchestration is gorgeous, a joy to hear. I was impressed with the quality of all the singers too and the costumes and stage sets were also beautiful. It was lovely to see Alma's sister Helen involved, a gifted musician in her own right. I don't know whether Helen composes too. ROH Covent Garden needs to run this wonderful opera for Christmas and New Year season, encouraging families to attend because children would love the story, such a clever adaptation of the original Cinderella. As an eight year old girl I played the Ugly Stepmother in the school pantomime version of this classic tale, and it has always been close to my heart. Both my older sister and I compose, albeit in very different styles. My sister started to write music at an early age, including a string quartet, ragtime-style pieces, music for a school play and a setting of a Christmas carol and she carried on into adulthood but has struggled to get inspired in more recent times. I'm a dedicated amateur improvising jazz pianist who plays by ear and cannot read music and I am coming up with some American Songbook-style compositions in recent years, inspired by the likes of Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin and others. So my sister and I are much lower down on that hierarchy of creativity that leads upwards to the greats of classical music and jazz. Alma, at just 18 years of age, is at the top of the ladder. However, for we mere mortals, her music is incredibly inspiring. It is truly great music and there is going to be tons more of it to enjoy over the coming decades. So it inspires us all in our own creative endeavours. I played a piece of mine before an audience a few days ago and it received positive feedback. Alma's genius and creativity definitely inspires me to do more with my own abilities in music, and also art and perhaps even writing too, which I have tried in the past. Cinderella really is a triumph and I hope to see it live one day. More opera houses need to bring it into their repertoire. A huge thank you to Alma. I trust that she and her family are well and enjoying life in Vienna.

I dreamt I was stuck in school with no shoes, they weren't even to be found in the lost and found! I had to walk home barefoot and it sure wasn't nice. When I awoke, I searched for the symbolism of shoes and, of course, Cinderella was at the top of the list. Shoes are a symbol of status and to be barefoot can be humiliating. Being shoeless is also a symbol of humility and of a deep spiritual connection. Cinderella by Alma Deutscher is, somehow, deeply elevating and humbling. Alma's achievement is so spectacular, people almost forget she is a woman! And as befit them, Alma and Natalia Santaliz shook the world by giving it one of the grandest narratives in the most beautiful of ways, proving again that woman are just as good, if not better, than any men idealized as semi-gods in any field. It certainly is an incredible time to be alive to witness woman like them take the lead in redefining what classical music can become!!

Alma, your opera is great. I was surprised you didn’t use the song Cinderella wrote as the identifying melody (and song) that the Prince used to try and find her. That would have been even more special. More operas please! 😁

Simply cause the song was stolen, and everyone at the ball heard it already 😊

The whole point of the story is that Cinderella isn't special simply because she has a tiny foot as in the original story and he is not special simply because he is a handsome prince. The beauty of his poem touched Cinderella deep in her soul and that melody she wrote touched the prince just as deeply. They are kindred souls.

Finding the lady by her melody is reminiscent of the legend of the minstrel Blondel singing to locate Richard I.

Does anyone know if the beginning takes inspiration from any classic operas? It just sounds so familiar to me

I feel the hokey cokey episode descends too far into banality even for the ugly sisters - but more importantly, for Alma. This should be re-written. Apart from that, the work is close to perfection.
