Cimarron 1873 Frontier Model

Taking a look at the first single action army clone I ever bought. This is the Cimarron 1873 Frontier Single Action Army Clone made by Pietta in Italy. This one is nickel plated and nicely engraved. This was an impulse buy while I was at Buds just looking. It was a used gun, but looked to be in decent shape. Because I didn't know much about them at the time, and neither did the salesman, I managed to haggle the price down considerably because I told him that I thought the action was worn out. Turns out Pietta guns have a very light action. Custom Grips by Arizona Custom Grips on eBay. These are Magna Tusk faux ivory. They are not plastic like the stock grips, and many other aftermarket grip offerings. They are solid and look awesome in my opinion.

Nice and those grips look great with the nickel plating. I have a couple recent production Pietta Frontiers - got them for CAS which I am going to start again. I don't know where you are but if you've never tried CAS, I recommend going to a match to check it out. But be careful, you might just get hooked. lol One thing you didn't mention is that the cylinder pin can be pushed in further to block the hammer as a kind of safety - like if you wanted to keep it loaded but unable to fire by unauthorized personnel... you just push in the locking button and with the hammer cocked, push the cylinder pin further in... it then protrudes out of frame under the hammer.

Thank you! I really like how they turned out. Buying sight unseen off rhe internet is a crap shoot, but in this instance, I was pleasantly surprised. Arizona Custom Grips does excellent work. I've since ordered a couple more sets from him.

I've noticed that when the hammer is uncocked on SAA's the trigger is in different positions. Some like the one in this video the trigger rest at the rear. Some rest in the middle of the finger guard. Why is that? I'm waiting to be approved for a Pietta 1873 gen 2 SAA. Its trigger rest in the middle when uncocked.

It's the way the sear rests against the hammer notches on the original design. Does your pietta have a transfer bar? If so, different system and might explain why it doesn't move.

Hello Friend. Do you see much difference in this weapon quality for an Uberti El Patron or a Tylor? Which would be better in terms of quality, machining, and fitting of parts. Thank you, I await the reply.

I have several Uberti and Pietta guns. IMO, Uberti makes a much nicer, better finished firearm than Pietta. Cimarron, Taylors, Stoeger are just importers.

Not really any extra attention put into them. A few seconds to buff those ugly MIM pock marks off the trigger or shimming the hammer so it doesn't drag on frame. That rough unfinished inside rear of frame. All those Italian clones are a crap shoot no matter whos name is stamped on it. Standard Manu. does a good job if you want something better. Pietta and Uberti can be slicked up, but when there is crap on the outside already plated over, your stuck with it. Cimarron likes to claim they are superior to other importers but they're not.

Exactly. They are a dice roll. Worth the price for the most part, but cylinder-to-barrel gaps can vary, and to a lesser degree fit and finish. I say this from experience.
