As a child in the early 70s, I was always moved by this song though being young I couldnt process why I reacted to it. Now I see that it reflected my council estate background and described the lives of people I knew. The gentleness and tenderness of the emotions in the song contrasted with the grey and sometimes threatening environment I lived in.

I am American and had never heard of this lovely lady or this beautiful haunting song. If she had come a lot to the U.S. I am sure she would have been a huge star. RIP to a huge talent.

I first remember this song from listening to Judy Collins do it a million years ago. Judy had a beautiful voice but whoever gave her the lyrics was a fool. Still, Liverpool Lullaby has rattled around in my head for half a century.

I used to sing this song to my little boys because their father was from Liverpool. He taught me the song. Now I am brushing up on the words so I can sing it to my granddaughter who will be born in January.

I'm pretty sure this version couldn't be broadcast now. Even here I think a word was censored.

What class! Her gestures, her alluring eye contact with the camera & the audience, are perfectly appropriate to the lyrics and her very fine voice pulls at your heart strings.
