The concept is great. The implementation was also very good, at least at first, with a caring staff, nice facilities and good food provided. Unfortunately, the facility recently began taking in a significant number of dementia cases which require most of the staff's time. The quality of care for the balance of the patients has, therefore, recently has dropped off.

Hi there, Have you visited Mexico yet? I just started traveling abroad five/six years ago. At the moment I'm just vacationing. However my interest in expating has grown more & more. Generally speaking I found the draw of living full / part time abroad is a mix of things. Definitley lower costs, tropical weather, slower pace, new and interesting things, more fresh inexpensive naturally grown food, & overall your new country can be a euphoric experience. I'm a 40 something Canadian who is considering the DR myself but, I've been checking out Mexico because they seem to be a country that has been a prolific expat and retiree haven. Many countries are already following suit, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Belize etc. My own grandparents were snowbirds & they would go to Florida for the winter months. Visiting them in Florida were some of my best childhood memories. I attribute these memories as one of the many reasons I tavel abroad and now entertain the idea of moving abroad. Expating has become a kind of extreme version of snowbirding which allows one if they choose to they can stay year round abroad. It isn't even just retirees that are living abroad. Young generations like myself and younger FIRE ( Financial Independence Retire Early ) are also using travel to both explore the world and keep costs down while working online / remotely.

Sounds nice, but I have to ask: What are the specialized caregivers specialized in? Are there registered nurses? How often is a registered nurse on duty? Do you administer pain medicine?

I was at Cielito Lindo today & was VERY disappointed. First, I wrote them twice & never got a response. Their site said it was cheaper than the states. It cost $2900 a month. That is a LOT of money. Their rooms were small. My mother lives in an independent place in Minnesota for the elderly. She pays $1500 & has a complete apartment. That is a big difference than paying $2900 for a small room. This place might be good for people in the last stages of their lives but I would take a good look before making the jump.
