Ciat-Lonbarde Deerhorn Organ - An Introduction

Музыка

The Ciat-Lonbarde Deerhorn Organ is an instrument that I fell in love with quickly. To me, it embodies the spirit of electronic music, connecting to the roots of electronic music a century ago. Its pretty unknown, so I thought I would share a video on it.
Disclaimer: I am not getting paid for this and I paid for the Deerhorn myself. Darrin of Patch Point is a friend and synth succubus though.

    Darrin Wiener of Patch Point pointed out that Peter's zero is all knobs at 1 o'clock, and not just the top one. Also, top is ring, low is antenna and not the other way around. Also you should not tune it yourself, as all new instruments are factory tuned and you might break things if you don't know how trimpots work.

    I've really started to fall for these Ciat-Lonbarde instruments. I'm kind of tempted to start with a Tocante, they're so portable, solar powered, and quite a bit cheaper than the Deerhorn, but the Deerhorn looks like a lot of fun...

    Thank you! I had kind of dismissed the instrument first, since I thought that three Deerhorns this close together would be hard to play. But then I tried out a finely tuned DH at Patch Point and fell in love. That is why I cover the tuning process in so much detail - its essential to get the most out of it.

    HAINBACH So I guess what I've concluded, from watching these two Ciat-Lonbarde Videos you suggested ( this one, now for the 2nd time [Sad Robot Kitties] ) ...is that the Cocoquantus leans way more towards processing, but isn't without Signal Generation capabilities ( in the form of 3 Triangle Oscillators ). But the Deerhorn is more firmly rooted in Signal Generation, with slightly less of a penchant for Modulation. Sound fair?

  • @Hainbach

    dear hainbach, what you think about using 3 theremin module of doepfer with three different sources (oscillators+...) to create something that could resemble maybe this deerhorn or that could sound anyway interesting? Have you ever tryed this theremin doepfer module controller or in general to use more than one theremin device ? It should be possible to set a "distance\sensitivity" to be able to not let the antennas interfere with each others. I actually just saw there is a lot of "theremin controller module" . have you ever use them?

  • @Hainbach

    @Hainbach

    Mmh, the OSCs are special on the Deerhorn. They are the secret warm sauce together with the VCAs that make it sound so pleasant without reverb. If you have similarly rich combo sure it could work with Doepfers.

    tanks for answer, yet it seems that none on the web ever tryed (or show) to use more than one doepfer theremin control at once. My will would be to make a poliphonic theremin (that is what i like of deerhorn). Maybe ill try myself :)

  • @Hainbach

    @Hainbach

    5 жыл бұрын

    Osc pitch is rather crazy anyway, since it was not really made for that. I struggled with that as you can see in the video, but I don't have the amazing restrained and control of a theremin player. But the cables do affect the antennas - also because they are in the way when playing. Pomona cables are almist a must.

  • @dinraum

    @dinraum

    5 жыл бұрын

    HAINBACH ok that is what I expected. And it looks that the pitch range (or more the playable space) is rather narrow compared to a theremin. So this is more for Modulation, but the cable issue makes it more or less useless if you think of a decent playable instrument that the player can get used to by practicing. The way it is it reminds me more of a guitar that gets out of tune immediately.
