Ian normally has an ipad running some custom software (It replaced a macbook that he had on-stage initially). I wonder what they're doing in this performance to replace it.

@@hauxone I think there is cubase on it. A mixer and sequncer software with (midi) interface to the other instruments. Watch "chvrches live at thekla", they totally mess up the start of "Lies" ^^. Drums and some voices run complete off. That proves they -do- play really live. If this was the 80s I could imagine they used 12 synths on stage. Alone 2 for special effects on one track and the other 10 switching trough the sounds from special synths. (analogue, wavetable, sampler, digital FM, piano, theremin, mellotron)

I remember my mom watching "The Mother We Share" with me for the first time, and she said she "doesn't like it when kids pretend to be adults in the music industry". It totally looks like it, I don't blame her, but Lauren is actually over 30. This is beyond me. Anyway, amazing song and a lovely, perfectly imperfect performance that conveys a strong message within it. Lauren's voice giving me (positive) shivers as usual. Perfect.

I'm a huge Chvrches fan. It's rare that a band can release more than 10 songs that I actually really like, but they've done it. It's just a shame she is flat for several live performances. She sings in snatches. "good intentions" onwards it much better, but she struggles on plucking those higher notes out of no-where. I think she has the potential to be so good. Best pop voice sound since Susannah Hoffs.

I don't think so. I have seen her yesterday in Toronto. She has improved her voice so much and been able to reach her high note. Not to mention her performance was extremely good, you can feel the energy Lauren and Martin bring to the stage @>@

Kit Harrison same. I’ve seen her sound powerful and perfect pitch, other times I’ve seen her act like she can’t hear herself or she’s nervous and flat. You just gotta catch her at the right time basically

Ryan Vande Zande Not really. The music industry is filled with horrendous singers but they still get by because it’s about writing a good song. Lauren is far from “bad” Lauren is in a synth pop band, she’s not trying out for American Idol. Besides, in real life shows these are things people can’t even hear, KZread videos always sound worse.

Lauren has had vocal training. This performance was shortly after a long break & it takes while to get used to performing again. She has a beautiful natural timbre in her voice. Harry KG

Thank god, pop music is advertised as much. That and arranged bands the music industry puts out to make some money. I think their bet on Chvrches might start paying off soon. I think I came across them unknowingly through video games but don't expect them to perform those tunes at shows. Hope Lauren keeps up with vocal coaching too cause if they come back to Austin and she performs better I won't skip their opening act.

Props to whoever made her sound so good on the album version. It must have been days of editing and pitch correction LOL.

They would've done better going back on Tiny Desk. SLFR is really bad, the bad sound really shows, when everything's set up properly Lauren doesn't struggle like she was here poor lass

I think she'll get better. She already got better since Live Lounge, so I think she's learning! Vocals in Get Out are more powerful than in their older songs

I absolutely adore her vocals but the kind of pitching that happened at the start sounds very much the monitoring levels are off since when she starts her note she rarely slides into the note, she holds it confidently. She wouldn't have made it this far if she wasn't an incredible vocalist so I really think its just that she can't hear herself clearly.

I agree, love her voice and the band espeically but she always seems so flat and comes acsorss un-confident, with a little more help she'll sound amazing I think

I think others will agree that she can't really progect her voice that well....I think she needs more vocal training....just my opinion

For what it is it's not a bad song. However you can see she is battling on stage the sound just wasn't great.

I love chvrches but she sounds so flat. Don't know if it's the quality of the setup or what but, sorry not their (her) best.

It's because you're used to hearing layered voices with a lot of post processing in studio releases. She sounds totally fine.

When the only person in your band Mic’d up is the singer and she’s flat

I adore her, but not Alice The Goon's shoes from Popeye.

is that the best you can do, I've followed chvrches since I saw them doing support back in 2012. THEIR first album is brilliant and half of the second but these new songs so far are terrible. you can't deny it.
