Churning the Hoard | Releasing Decluttering Guilt

It is that time of the week again, it’s time to declutter another section of the basement. Some of the stuff in this corner was churned from previous videos. Churning the hoard simply means moving something from one place to another. It doesn’t have a home or the decision to let it go hasn’t been made yet. We dive a little deeper in releasing clutter guilt if we didn’t make a decision to let something go too.

I don't post anything online - facebook or otherwise. Whatever I declutter goes straight into the back of my car and off to Goodwill! I don't need a pile of 'stuff' sitting around my house! I started decluttering back in 2014! And I'm STILL combing my house for things to declutter! I'm down to one or a few things at a time (as opposed to FILLING a full size van with a trailer behind it lol!)

Ms Heart, I think it may be helpful for you to declutter that big chair that was by where you were decluttering today, because over the last few years it seems to have become a clutter magnet, in that you have cleared stuff off it and then it has re-accumulated over and over again. So decluttering it would help you to stop using it as a clutter placement holder or re-churning spot where you pile stuff. Also, considering the water and mould you have had in your basement over the last year or two and the fact that there was dust down there that chair is probably full of nasty mould spores, mildew or layers of dust mites by now.

Hey Miss Heart 🦄 That was a big today today pile, wow! And yes, it is so very important to find the ways we are self-sabotaging, smile forgive and understand why, and than change. Not an easy journey, but sure a rewarding one 💜 Would you consider to film a swipe from left to right while standing on the bottom of your stairs, just to give an overview of basement’s status? Would be exciting to see for us, AND will hold you accountable to really process the items you dealt with in that filming session. Maybe that’s a lever to use against ADHS?

The bag is beautiful. I usually give away my bags. Lately however I repurpose them. I have some things that I need and use but cannot find a home for it. I would decorate it if I was you, by using flowers iron ons or decoupage anything literally over the print decorate around the decoupage with lace, ribbons etc. Now you have a beautiful bag to store ribbons, or any other items you don't have a home for it. I wish I could go and get it for myself. No car 😢.

Of course there is an ebb and flow, but I've noticed with my low buy year that I have really enjoyed putting limits in place and having less stuff come in my home that I will eventually have to deal with. I would love more videos on this topic of stuff coming in. Maybe keep track of what comes in for a random week?

It's also so reassuring how you say it's ok when one is not ready to let go. You understand yourself so well and came so far. I am learning as I go and also declutter stuff from decades ago. It's so tough and have a long way to go. It's an emotional rollercoaster and most of your thought process resonates with me too.

When you were talking about not clearing away your piles of things from previous videos, it’s not just ADHD but it is your Butterfly organising tendencies too. It’s too hard to put things away when there are lids, so we Butterflies will pile on top of them or next to them. Unfortunately it’s hard in a long-term storage space like basements and attics because we need lids to protect our things. I have been working on it myself and if I feel I really don’t want to because it’s too hard to put away I count how long it takes me, so I know it’s usually under 5 or 10 seconds. I really have to talk myself through it though! Those shelves Mr Heart made for you to store the big tots on are helpful, I know for myself if I stack a few big things on top of each other then nothing will ever get put away in lower ones, so I am longing for some good shelving in my garage and attic!

I think ADHD and Hoarding are her specialty though so maybe better to stick with what works. Also many people have hearing or sensory problems and cant watch ones with a lot of music in them. There are so many other videos that are like what you described, if fact you might like the channel "living with Cambrea" it always has good music and it's sorting decluttering and cleaning.
