Chuck Yeager Advanced Flight Trainer - 1987 - MS-DOS Game Review

Ойындар

This game was released for IBM Personal Computers and compatibles running MS-DOS.
This game is quite a sophisticated flight simulator, and plays really well in the emulator. There are a lot of options to choose from, and it looks to be well polished, and about as good as a game can be in 1987. What I do miss is that you can't set default options for screen capabilities, and a high resolution EGA mode.
Apart from that, this is a piece of history that needs to be preserved!

Loved this game back in the day. This was still in the era where EA released games in those cool folders (kind of like a record album).

I used to really like them as a company. I don't know what they are doing these days, not really into modern gaming these days... I think my most modern game is Doom 2016.

I really like those early 3D DOS flight and racing simulators. I played LHX, Test Drive and Stunts the most, but this one looks intriguing too.

Oh man, these games are technically from just before I started gaming, and I am really looking forward to digging into the games that I used to play to death back then

Got this game with my 486 back in 94. Never manage to get it to start. Nice to finally see the game 30 years later...

Wow, yeah, a 486 would have been way too much machine for this game. You would probably have had to run a utility like moslo or something to slow down the pc to playable levels, and then your video card was also not completely backwards compatible. However, emulator tech has come a very long way, and it's now possible to emulate the really old PC's almost perfectly. Although I do miss the sounds of floppy drives and hard drives doing their thing.... even CD-ROM's spinning up!

Played the heck out of this when it was first released. Those were the days when a full manual was common, and I mean full. IIRC this title shipped with a 2/3" thick spiral bound manual. It was a tall order making sure these games were polished for release because a later update wasn't financially viable.

Man, I still have CD's and game boxes. I liked the fact that you bought something physical that you could hold in your hands when you bought a game or some music.

I think that was EGA. CGA was much worse.

Let me assure you that was CGA. It's the composite mode, better described in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oJ1_xM6gitjWf8Y.html&ab_channel=The8-BitGuy

I don’t remember this one, but I loved DOS games. Please get a better microphone, this was hard to listen to!

Hi there! So sorry about the sound... Most of the times when I do these game reviews I am on a ship, and that's just a noisy environment. Usually I would use the microphones on my laptop, and apply some sound processing, but for some reason one of the sound channels on the laptop is dead. Converting up from mono to stereo on the laptop mic is horrible. I can't just run out and get a mike either, as I am on a ship literally in the middle of the ocean. Right now I am using the microphones in a headset, but they are terrible. You might be relieved to hear that I have a nice bluetooth microphone on order in Amazon, but I won't see it for another three weeks, until this trip is over.
