Chuck Schuldiner Voice Change 1984 - 1998

Музыка

Showcases the change in Chuck Schuldiner's vocals from 1984 to 1998 and I decided to use the demos from 84 - 86 before the debut studio album. For those of you who don't know, their demo (Death By Metal) did feature one song from Chuck on Vocals (Power of Darkness), as Kam Lee was their lead vocalist in the early incarnation of Death (Mantas).
All credit goes to the respective owners and AlexGrindor for the original idea.
Hope you enjoy the video!

4:50 Hey! I took that picture! LOL - I wonder where did you get it from? It was taken with a crappy disposable Kodak in El Paso, April 08, 1990. I'm not seeking credit or anything like that, I just found it very cool to suddenly see my pic there. \m/

Unpopular opinion, it is the worst Death album. Not saying it’s bad, but out of all the album’s, it just felt like it lost some juice. The vocals don’t have the same power and emotion in the previous albums, although it’s maybe because Chuck hurt his vocal chords in his previous vocals. Death is the only band I can think of that has evolved with each album and each album is a masterpiece. My favorite album go back and forth between "Human" and "Symbolic". Favorite voice is "Human". Least is "Sound of Perseverance". Was his high raspy voice because he couldn't do the lows any more or was it by choice? The intensity is still there. I like like his lower range better.

"What pain will it take" Oh. Well. I can still remember the bite of disappointment when I heard voice tone in the first words in Scavenger of human sorrow, right after I bought the long awaited album on its release day. Good album though. But as musically good as it may be, it will always lack a flavor of the anger you can feel in "Individual", to name only one. Side note: One of the biggest regrets in my life: I missed their concert in Paris (1995), because of a... train strike (no kidding, ha!)

I understand what you mean. I also prefer the old vocals, but I still dig the Sound of Perseverance vocals. In Chuck’s defense, The Sound of Perseverance was supposed to be a Control Denied album, which was supposed to differ from Death’s brutal sound. He wanted to explore his writing and playing style. He knew not everyone would be happy with it. I respect that.
