Watching these old re-runs of Johnny and the Tonight Show I realize how far we have in many ways digressed as a society. Hopefully we can change and mature and realize we are all one community. It's never perfect but we can at least strive for it.

They took the time to speak with him at length, do a nice demo and get some laughs. Excellent. My son started lessons at 4 years of age with about 30 kids. Four years later, he earned his jr black belt along with only one other kid who had started at the same time. Nothing better than teaching children when young that their success is predicated upon their efforts.

I'm a 3rd Degree Black belt and I taught for 14 years to kids of all ages. I just loved it. To watch the kids' discipline, grow and confidence was very rewarding. I also taught adults. But the kids were a lot of fun. Some adults were afraid to fight back, but when I told them when and if they got assaulted, they may be raped or worse, and that it would affect them and their relationships the rest of their lives then they saw how important it was to fight back and defend themselves.

Chuck Norris had done Return of the Dragon with Bruce Lee before this show, but at the time of this appearance on The Tonight Show he could not have known the film and TV careers he was headed for. Having 4 years of martial arts training myself, I recognize the techniques that Phillip used on Johnny. Particularly with the first technique, using Johnny's chin and hair against him, our Sensei always said "take the head, and the body will follow." And as chuck said, the confidence and other personal attributes I gained in martial arts training are something I use and benefit from every day. Fortunately, I've never had to defend myself. I credit that by not being in stupid places at stupid times.

If Bruce Lee had lived . He would NOT have allowed RETURN OF THE DRAGON to be shown in the U.S. Lee said it was "too far out for the Americans." He said, "Enter the Dragon " was for the American film market. Unfortunately, Lee died before the film hit movie theaters in 1973. He never got to see his impact in the states.

My son is a black belt in taekwondo. His master instructor was at a conference with other owners of martial arts schools several years back and, long story short, someone was able to arrange for Chuck Norris to come spend some time with them. As he described it, the moment "Master Norris" walked into the room, every serious and dignified martial arts school owner in the room disappeared and was replaced by a collection of 12-year-old fanboys.

Bruce Lee was supposed to be the main guest on the Tonight Show in August 10 1973 he was set to promote Enter The Dragon and to be interviewed for the first time on national TV in USA by Johnny, unfortunately he passed away exactly 15 days after this show on Friday July 20 1973.
