CHUB AND BARBEL FISHING | How to catch MORE by freelining

Спорт

We're back on the river and we're Chub and Barbel fishing. We keep tackle as simple as it can possibly be! Freelining for Barbel and Chub might sound ridiculously basic but, it's a method that can work really well. It's a tactic that can be especially effective on a new venue when you're trying to get familiar with the surroundings. We move from swim to swim fishing with meat and pellets to try and land a few fish!
This is a stretch of the river that I've not caught Chub or Barbel from in previous seasons, so it's a great opportunity to explore and get to grips with a new venue.
Thanks for checking out the video as always.

    Love roving around on the river, can't beat it, much more productive than sitting in one swim all day long

    Another great video Nick, really enjoyed it. My local river Dane in Cheshire looks very similar to there but unfortunately the Chub and Barbel fishing has all but vanished due to Avian predation and masses of crayfish, used to love roving for hours one fish in a swim then move on and as you said throw some bait in and come back to try later as you work your way back. Keep the good work up.

    That’s sad to hear mate. Love fishing for these. Roving the river has to be my most favourite style of fishing, regardless of species 👍👍👍👍

    Cracking video. Rolling meat is something I’ve neglected too much lately but I’m feeling inspired to get on it next time out on my local small river. I think the barbel get very of static baits when the water’s pressurised.

    I think it’s a good way to search them out and even if you don’t catch you get to know the whole stretch quite intimately and quite quickly. There’s not much flow atm but when there is you can get the flow to carry the bait right under the canopies, much further under than with a lead or a feeder.

    Loved that, Nick. Have you tried lightly scalding your pellets before trickling them in? It’s something I’ve been trying with 6mm halibuts this summer. It seems to switch the chub and the barbel on a little quicker so is great for short sessions. Bait goes a bit further too.

    YES! I do this, in fact I’ve been playing around with scalded pellets and a large flatbed feeder! Scalding is really effective as they sink quicker and don’t get swept away in the flow as easily! Great tip 👍👍👍

    Nice to see you back after your holidays. Having just got back into fishing this year being my first full season im looking into this style of fishing myself. Im mainly a lure angler both fresh water and sea but like the idea of roaming on rivers with minimal gear. Can i ask what rod you are using please is it the telescopic version rod or the basic 2 piece. Thanks looking forward to the next videos.

    Thanks Mark. I’m using the Korum Opportunist XTND perfect for this style of fishing. It has a telescopic butt section that retracts into the handle 👌 I use the 10ft version as longer rods are a pain when you’re moving around a lot. I have the 2.25lb. Hope that helps! Good luck 👍👍👍

    Good, Is there any downside to freelining is it the best method for small rivers or streams

  • @Lifeonthebank

    @Lifeonthebank

    Жыл бұрын

    Something I really like about freelining is being able to cover lots of river. A downside would be trying to fish it in deep or very fast water. In that scenario, I would probably rather fish on the bottom in a slack area.
