The Chrysler Concorde was a full-size sedan produced by Chrysler from 1993 to 2004. It was known for its sleek design, spacious interior, and comfortable ride, making it a popular choice among family sedans in its era. Here’s a detailed look at its history, performance statistics, and the different models that were part of the Concorde lineup:
History of the Chrysler Concorde:
First Generation (1993-1997):
Introduction: The Chrysler Concorde was introduced in 1993 as part of Chrysler’s LH platform, which included the Dodge Intrepid and the Eagle Vision.
Design: The Concorde featured a cab-forward design, which maximized interior space and gave it a distinctive, aerodynamic look.
Innovation: It was one of the first sedans to offer a standard driver’s side airbag and optional ABS brakes.
Second Generation (1998-2004):
Redesign: The 1998 model year saw a complete redesign, with a more refined and sophisticated appearance. The cab-forward design was retained but updated for a more contemporary look.
Improvements: The second generation brought enhancements in interior materials, build quality, and performance.
Performance Statistics:
First Generation (1993-1997):
Engines:
3.3L V6: 153-161 hp, 181-213 lb-ft torque.
3.5L V6: 214 hp, 221 lb-ft torque.
Transmission: 4-speed automatic.
0-60 mph: Approximately 8-9 seconds depending on the engine.
Second Generation (1998-2004):
Engines:
2.7L V6: 200 hp, 190 lb-ft torque.
3.2L V6: 225 hp, 225 lb-ft torque.
3.5L V6: 234-250 hp, 241-250 lb-ft torque.
Transmission: 4-speed automatic.
0-60 mph: Approximately 7.5-8.5 seconds depending on the engine.
Notable Models and Variants:
Base Model:
Standard Features: Air conditioning, power windows and locks, tilt steering wheel, and AM/FM stereo.
LX and LXi (First Generation):
LX: Mid-level trim with upgraded interior features, better sound system, and additional comfort features.
LXi: Top-of-the-line model with leather upholstery, premium sound system, alloy wheels, and other luxury touches.
LX, LXi, and Limited (Second Generation):
LX: Entry-level model with basic features suitable for budget-conscious buyers.
LXi: Mid-range model with enhanced interior features, better audio system, and more convenience options.
Limited: The top-tier model offering the highest level of luxury with features like leather seats, premium audio systems, advanced climate control, and more.
Features and Innovations:
Safety: The Concorde was noted for its safety features, including standard dual airbags, anti-lock brakes (optional in the first generation, standard in the second), and available traction control.
Interior Space: The cab-forward design provided a spacious cabin with ample legroom and a large trunk, making it a practical family car.
Ride Quality: Both generations of the Concorde were praised for their smooth ride and comfortable seating, ideal for long drives.
Legacy:
Market Position: The Chrysler Concorde was positioned as a mid-to-upper tier full-size sedan, competing with vehicles like the Ford Taurus and the Chevrolet Lumina.
End of Production: Production of the Concorde ended in 2004, with the introduction of the Chrysler 300, which continued Chrysler’s tradition of full-size sedans with a more modern and upscale approach.
The Chrysler Concorde remains a notable model in Chrysler’s history, remembered for its innovative design and role in the brand’s lineup during the 1990s and early 2000s. It combined practical features with a touch of luxury, making it a popular choice among sedan buyers of its time.
here have been discussions and speculative renderings about the possibility of Chrysler reviving the Concorde in the future. Enthusiasts on platforms like Allpar have shared renderings and ideas about a potential new Concorde, reflecting a desire for Chrysler to bring back the model, especially as a more modern, possibly electric vehicle (Le Guide de l'auto) (Allpar Forums).
Chrysler's recent focus has shifted towards minivans and future electric vehicles (EVs). The brand no longer produces sedans like the 300, which leaves minivans like the Pacifica as the primary focus. There are also plans for new EV models starting in 2026, reflecting the broader industry trend towards electrification (Le Guide de l'auto) (Allpar Forums).

I use to change my battery with a jack no stands lol that was high school. Loved the Concord, mine was also dark charcoal Grey. Plenty of room inside the cab and tons of room In the trunk. Rode that car forever and a day. Jumped it about 4 feet off the ground all 4 wheels. Smoothest landing ever lol best air I ever got in a sedan. 3 weeks after during Inspection and no leaks lol.

That has to be the one and only pimples out Chrysler Concorde. In the entire world. The engineering on these things was just crazy. Ask yourself where that battery is. You will never find it because they tucked it up underneath of the damn front wheel so you have to put the car on a lift to change the freaking battery. RLTW 3/75
